Now that the Humbug and money wasting season is upon us [Did I see  Christmas cards on sale in August this year….?] have a good look at  all the price-tags fixed to the modern day festive necessities such as  imitation reindeer antlers, red Santa hats, the almost obligatory red  slipper socks, lengths of lurid green plastic ivy and fir  wreaths…..not to see how much you have been ripped off but for the  ties attached thereto.

In the vain hope that my sense of whimsy has not exceeded my grasp of  reality, do these, or do these not make a pretty fair substitute for  signal cabin/station building finials?

Your eye for the "recyclable" never ceases to amaze me Doug.
Nice find….
I wonder if I can find any in N scale :) , I'll just have to keep my eyes open.

Did you wait until the item had sold before you removed the tags??

Worryingly I found them in the sitting room waste paper basket this Sunday past when I was duty mess sweeper….I wish she'd bought at least 2 of the same thing!

Its that time of the year Doug:

The scene is Vancouver……its the Monsoon season:

SWMBO arrives in car from shopping safari and instructs staff (that would be me) to unload forthwith………first bag out is from the Liquor Store…….in addition to the normal bottles of Chateau Plonk…….I cannot help noticing a very expensive looking box containing Jura MSLW.
Not being very quick witted I just took it into the house where I was immediately reprimanded for being tactless and insensitive  I fear its about to be returned for a refund

I guess I may have veered briefly off topic……..

Many years ago either you or Ddolfelin (?) posted a tutorial about downloading and resizing posters like this :

I have the files stored as Jpegs but, for the life of me, cant remember how to resize them ……nor can I find the original thread???

Cor…that's a long time ago!

If you have them as jpegs and don't have a phot editor you could try opening a Word file, and insert as a picture.

By L clicking on it you will get corners to drag to size it.

We did try to have a forum standard but although several of us did the reszing exercise it seemed to die a death.

Bad move re the SLW, that's one of my favourites. I noticed the CEO (Domestics) had a very heavy rectangular box in her luggage in an airport bag on her recent return from UK…..

I usually use the MS Word method as being the easiest.

I have Photoshop at work and Paint Shop Pro at home and resizing is easy using the image menu => resize/size (depending on the program and version) but working out the scale is difficult as there is nothing to compare it with.

With Word, I turn on the rulers, which give a very close estimation of the size. One can also right-click the picture and format it to a particular set of measurements.

The finials look spot on Doug - if they're the right scale.  I just wonder what you're planning to do with the flashing Santa hat they were attached to ……..:hmm

Regarding "found" contraband, when in UK recently, a "bonus gift" from a garden centre I visited was a small bag of compost - about A3 size.  It had obviously come from the bottom of a very large pallet load because it was squeezed flat and was quite rigid - you could pick it up by one corner without it bending.

I popped it against the inside garage wall whilst I unloaded to car and promptly forgot it.  Liz later said she thought she'd found one of her Christmas pressies - a large book she thought !!!:lol::lol:  That'll teach her to snoop. :thumbs

Those signs look great John - a bump and refresher course on your original thread might be a good idea Doug.

I can't think of a key word to search under, Peter, and I've 440 topics I've personally started, too. Sods law says I'll look through all 440 and find it was on someone else's thread!

I'll keep thinking, though.

I spent an hour or so looking but gave up in the end……hence my cry for help.

Thanks for all the help guys…….I have Photoshop Elements and Irfanview and routinely re size my images for posting but I couldnt remember how to do it for printing…….I had forgotten I used Word or Open Office……the ruler option is perfect because I need a specific size for a Mechanical Horse Trailer

Peter……… the images came from the site Doug directed me to……I selected about half a dozen "collections" like the one I posted above  and saved them as JPEG printed them out and cut them up for use as individual posters…………..I can send them to you (and anyone else interested) if they will be of use to you.
