This is also a tribute to Owen who helped me with my static grass applicator.  I must have taken a hundred shots of this grass, trying to do it justice.  These are the best I could come up with, Mike.



There are two tracks with buffer stops.  Each has a bit of wonder cloth which has been painted and pastelled.  Then the 60/40 PVA wicked into it and turned it into sticks.




The static grass machine is working, Owen, as you can nearly see.





Hopefully you can see it.




A low angle shot, desperately trying to get the macro to ignore the buffer stop and focus on the grass.



And finally, pulled back to show the context - at least the tree came out OK!

When using macro you could try putting something like a domino on the spot you want to be in focus, depress the button half way until it 'locks' the focus, whipping away the domino whilst keeping the button in the half-cock position, and then firing off the button when it's clear.

A baby tripod helps, as does using the delay function so that you don't get shakes.

The bark on that tree looks real, is it ?

And the grass looks fine to me, very under stated, just right for burnt out grass.

Macro Photography, is not that easy, and DD is right, if your camera does has Macro, it's a must to use it on a tripod, or rest it on a bean bag, or even the baseboard, the problem with resting it on the baseboard,, is being able to look through the viewfinder, and make sure that the lens is focusing on the subject that you want, the other thing about macro is depth of field/focus, but I think I covered that in one of the tutorial's.

Thanks Alan.  Yes.  I use branches from the melaluca tree.  They are very strong, even when they are very fine.  Those trees were made from two branches, glued together with hot melt glue.  The foliage is Woodlands Scenics clump foliage glued on with hot melt.  I used two colours of clump and then sprayed it with spray adhesive and sprinkled with WS Fine Turf Yellow Grass to simulate new growth.  Not in Mikec's class, but I'm hoping to improve by watching his and other members' every move!
