Are some modern Hornby diesel locos fitted with tyres?  If so, and you have one, could you please tell me the wheel diameter?

I realise this is the Hornby section of YMR, but the same Qs is pitched at Vitrains diesels owners - I believe some of those are fitted with tyres.

Be glad to hear from colleagues on this one

I can hardly believe it Adrian but it seems you are out of luck with your query. I would have thought that at least a couple of members would have had locos with tyres on. Ah well, can't win 'em all.

The reason I cannot answer is that I would not have a loco that requires traction tyres.
Adrian, you maybe better off contacting  Hornby direct.

Can you give us an inkling of what you are trying to do, Adrian?  It might throw up some ideas for other directions.  Are you trying to source tyres for a particular loco?

Thanks to Robert, Ron and Max.

I have two or three Lima class 60 diesels that I'm quite happy with (I do have the Hornby variant as well!).

The Lima driving bogies are fitted with a couple of tyres which aren't giving any trouble at the moment, but I like to think ahead ………………..

One source I located online seems quite expensive, so I was looking for alternatives - hence the posting on YMR

In pursuing the matter I have just recently come across East Kent Models, who seem to be able to supply parts for Hornby, Bachmann, ViTrains and Lima.

Quoting from their lists (obtainabale via email): "for Lima large wheel traction tyres see Vitrains section" and then in that section: "700328V class 37/47 traction tyres fit large Lima wheel"

I'll send for some tomorrow and report back on my findings!

Best

Adrian

Chris from Kernow Model Rail Centre was very good when I was sourcing a motor for a Bachmann loco.  Might be worth an email, Adrian.

I promised I'd report back when I got the tyres from East Kent Models.

However, as the subject is really Lima diesels, I put a mention in the following section ie "Other Producers"

Hope that's the way to do it Robert?
