Help me YMRCers! your my only hope!

Hi All!
Our shipment from Greece just came yesterday (finally!) and after three months, finally saw my precious…… The Caledonian Belle :roll:. Before we left Greece, I thought I'd just clean out the motor from dog hair… but apparently it's not that easy to take the body off. I need your guys's help to remove the body. I accidentally broke the tabs on the bottom off :???:. Th back is wiggling and i though the sprung wires on the sides would remove it but that was the motor….. so not it doesn't even run. I really, really, really, really, really, really, need help. I've searched but nothing has worked they say I have to pull the (broken) tabs back, releasing the rear, the then push down and up or something but it just ain't working!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I've attached some photos taken from my new computer.

Unless things have changed with the body mounting, you should be able to pull the cab up from back to front. There are two locating tabs under the smokebox. My model dates back some time (notice it has handrails which later models didn't), so things may have changed somewhat.



Below. Looking down on model. Must unlock the orange circled hooks first.

Probably the later model Darius, with the tabs at the back below the cab front.

Try a small screwdriver in the front where the pistons are and prise up gently.

It's not very clear, but in Fig 4a you just use the tip of a screwdriver to lever the front up.

This might make it a bit clearer Darius.

Some (not all) of these Pugs have a screw at the front, which has to be removed.







Then insert a screwdriver in to the gap just above the pistons.



Prise the body up at the front away from the chassis.



and hey presto.



Ignore the DCC decoder on the top of the motor on mine.

Sorry the pictures are a bit dark, but it should explain the general idea.

Hi again! Thanks for the great tips, I got the whole body/motor/chassis apart and there were about 8 kilos of dog hair in there :tongue… The only problem is that now… I don't know how to a) put the wire under the motor back b) secure the motor back in place, and c) his little fella popped out halfway through the disemboweling: (it's right at the top of the piccy)

Again, I have some pictures showing what the problem is.

First up, are one of these circles on the right of the pic, a screw from the bottom of the chassis ??



If yes, you should be able to seat the motor back into the chassis, and screw the small screw back in from underneath. This should hold the motor back into place, so that the 'spring wire' can be clipped back over the front part of the shaft housing of the worm gear, as shown below.



It maybe quite fiddly to do, but I'm positive you'll get it back in position, no problems at all.

I recognise it Darius, but I can't remember what it is.

I'll have a look later, if someone else doesn't come back with an answer in the meantime, but it's 6:50am here and I haven't had enough coffee yet.

I've had all three of my pugs apart and I can't find a piece of plastic that resembles what's in your picture .

I'm sure I've seen something similar before, but don't think it's part of this loco.

I've taken mine apart in the same way as yours.



Just slide the motor and it's housing back in to the chassis.



The worm gear on the motor shaft should mesh snugly with the cog on the front axle.



Then just put the screw back.



As Gary has shown earlier, the tricky bit is getting the spring back on that holds the motor firmly on the chassis.

Hook one side first



and then the other, without getting any wires trapped between the spring and the motor.



Mine looks messy because of the decoder wires but you only have two, which should make it a bit easier.

Remember post #11 in April last year, I said "I recognise it Darius, but I can't remember what it is."?

Yesterday I was taking one of my pugs apart (after all, what else can you do on a cold, dark, wet, January afternoon), and guess what fell out!



It would appear that this particular version of the Hornby Pug has a different type of cradle the holds the motor in place. It's not even what's shown on the latest service sheet.

So in answer to you question, it goes here….

and with the motor back in, you can see it sitting underneath, arrowed.



I think between us all we can answer most questions on this forum, it's just some answers take a bit longer than others (especially if it's from me)
