Invested in a tube heater, 180 watts. Should provide frost protection and low running costs.

Beats the old paraffin greenhouse heater hands down.  Does it gove off enough heat to keep things dry and frost-free in a UK climate ?

I’ve had it running for a few days on the timer cycle, 2 hrs on 2 hrs off. It gives off enough heat that you can’t touch the tube, I’ve insulated the shed now and it’s staying about 14 degrees with the heater cycling between on and off for 12 hrs ( 7 pm-7 am) It’s about 7/8 degrees outside at the moment. Hope it doesn’t get below about 5 when the temperature drops to zero here

Reminds me of my garage layout, which had no heating.

If it got too cold I didn't run trains

That sounds ideal Graham.

Having seen yours in situ on the photo, I have one very similar - an old electric greenhouse heater - but am slightly concerned that mine does get quite hot so don't use it anymore.  I don't want a fire !!!

If yours also gets very hot and it's brand new, maybe I don't need to worry too much about mine …………………………:07rolleyes_2:

It does say in the instruction manual that it’s gets very hot , the actual tube itself is made of metal.

Only available space I have, I’m hoping everything survives the winter. It’s all insulated now with the heater for frost protection.
Ps how did yours do over the winter apart from the coldness. I’m worried about dampness but all seems ok up to now.

It was all OK. Living in a Essex only 20 miles from London, it doesn't get as cold as other parts of the country.

It's an integral garage so the rest of the house keeps it warm and dry, just not warm enough to sit and play trains.

I see what you mean, it’s a bit colder up here.
