Hornby R416 operating mail coach. £10 from eBay including postage. It came with the mail bag pick up and drop off but no ramps, so made my own from some plastic. Seems to work ok.

I think I’ll call it done for now, maybe a bit of tweaking here and there.  IMG_7592.jpeg

Mail depot extension, had a spare point and piece of curved track. Enables me to park a shunter in there and isolate it.

Hi Ed, yes it does. There was a goods yard and Royal Mail sorting depot not far from where I live. It was all changed in about 1979/80. I think the transportation of goods shifted to road transport and they built a new Mail sorting centre on the old site.

Decided to extend my layout with a loop ( if that’s the right terminology). Ordered some 2 nd radius curves, straights and a point. There will be a hinged lift up section near the door. Hope my geometry is correct.

Not bad so far, just waiting for some straights and curves then I’ll tackle the other end.

Flexitrack would be useful Gray, less joints.

Hi Ed, I considered flexitrack but wasn’t sure if I could bend it to make a semicircle.
Managed to do the hinged drop down section at the other end now.

It used to be cheaper to use flexitrack instead of buying straight sections of track, but I also tend to use setrack for curves to get the radius right.

It's looking good

Yes I stuck with the settrack for the curves to get the correct geometry, it just fits in. I’ve tested it and it’s running fine. Photo to follow.

A drop down rather than a lift up flap - that's interesting Graham - why ?

Nice looking train shed - is it new but I don't see any insulation/damp-proofing ?   Also, interesting looking baseboard material - what is it ?

I made it drop down so the hinge was not visible, the baseboard is some 4 foot x1 foot laminated boards I had. Just the right size.
I’ve got a small heater in the shed, but I’ve got a big roll of self adhesive foam insulation up at my allotment I might use that ( should have done it first really )
Ps only just seen the replies, I’m not receiving notifications for some reason.

Ps I know I said lift up section before but I just ended up making it drop down, I only had a brass hinge in my toolbox so I use that.
I think the laminate board I had is used for making built in wardrobes / furniture etc.
on the top of the baseboard I used some roofing felt and some fine sandpaper for the track and yard surfaces.
The backboard was cut down to size to accommodate the backscene which is 9 inches tall, then the offcut was screwed to the front edge.
