I see BBC 4 are doing a 2 part  documentary on the current state of the Hornby group.

The programme - "James Mays Big Trouble in Model Britain" - will be hosted by James May (naturally !!) and screened at 9pm this Wednesday (6th March) with the 2nd part next week.

Should be an interesting watch …………………….

Hopefully it will appear on YouTube which was how I was eventually able to watch the Great Railway Modelling Challenge.

I think from some of the trailers I have seen elsewhere that it could be quite interesting.

Yes, very "James May" but a good insight into both the business and the modelling.  So tragic that so much tooling was lost under previous management.

Enjoyed that !  thanks for flagging it up Peter.  Re the moulds. . . much history destroyed by ignorant people but just maybe a pheonix will rise from the ashes and Hornby have to move on now where it would have been easy to try and rely on old tooling to recover ?  What came across was the enthusiasm of the remaining staff.  Looking forward to the next episode

I haven't seen it myself. But what I'm hearing here… What kind of idiot management destroys toolings?! At a toy or model company, those are some of the absolute most valuable resources and (as the most costly part of development) represent considerable investment! It doesn't matter if they're dated - so long as they haven't worn too bad or crumbled they're profitable! Older ones actually moreso because the initial investment has been recouped! Are these clowns the same people responsible for discontinuing the Thomas range?
