Hornby/Tri-ang ? Clerestory conversion
Hi All. Continuing my Hornby/Tri-ang theme . I have got it wrong according to a "Rivet Counter" Aquaintance of mine,who pointed out the error of my ways in my quest for London South Western carriages. this critism is "Subjective", but I would like to be correct . I have considered a future plan? For a joint station, with an interchange between LSWR and GWR . But in the meantime I read about replacing the original bogies with a better one "Dean bogies" have been suggested but that sounds complicated? First find a suitable Bogie and wheels? then do whatever one has to do to clean it and and fit the wheels, paint it fit couplings, it sounds a full time job and what for, get it wrong and I have wasted my efforts. That is once the original Bogie has been removed from the chassis , but will the roof come off or is it part of the body? And is that glued or screwed together? Any help and advice would be appreciated . All the best. Kevin

There is a thread over on http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/91506-dean-86-coach-bogies/ regarding replacement Dean bogies, as they have been exceedingly difficult to source for a while. There are however, some options and 247 Developments are soon to remanufacture white metal kits again.
As I needed some 8'6" bogies for a kit bash, I had a pair made up by Shapeways and there's a photo on the above link. These bogies are designed to be direct replacements for the Triang clerestory stock, but since my accident, I've been unable to model, so will have to wait to see how they perform.
Arte you still planning to remove the clerestory roof section as a kit bash and don't Hornby offer ex-LSWR coaches in Southern livery?
