Class 08 - cab interior access

has anyone gone beyond removing the body unit from footplate on the Hornby 08?

I want to respray one and was trying to avoid masking up the windows, especially the two half open ones.

Interesting construction around the cab - looks like it may be joined somehow to the main body; the cab detail seems like an insert from below.

Problem is - mine's s/hand and may have been subject to the glue treatment

interesting though ……………… so, has anybody gone inside?

One other thing - I've never handled a Bachmann 08 - would they be easier to disassemble in order to respray?

best

Answering the last one first: the Bachmann cab should come off fairly easily as it slides upwards off the bonnet and floor mouldings. There may be a small amount of glue holding it but on my example this was easily broken without damaging the cab mouldings or the bonnet.

As for the Hornby one, I am about to find out since I have just won a Freightliner version from eBay at a very reasonable price because it has one cabside window missing. I am quite capable of replacing said window but I am hoping the cab interiorwill be easily accessible, rather than having to mount the new glazing from the outside.

Thanks for your reply
I'll be particularly interested to hear how you get on when your Hornby 08 arrives.
Will you email me with your findings please

thanks

It can be done but it's a pain cuz Hornby glues the cab to the body. :0(

Tha glazing on my hornby fell in to the cab . i did try to get the cab separated from the rest of the body .I rang hornby about it . They said if its fixed its fixed.  Glued in i suppose but a very tight fit to boot..My 08 now runs without glazing   but at least its in one piece.  As an aside i did manage to fit a bachmann 533 decoder ,after trimming the excess plastic from the ends of the chip.  Runs ok.
