I have yet to find a OO/HO loco that a TCS M series decoder can not be fitted to.

Graham Farish A4 Steam N Gauge  Hard Wired

Lenz silver mini decoder has to be tender mounted no room whatsoever in loco

cab floor would maybe be possible would look crap.

Obviously far more fiddly than any oo/ho not for the faint hearted

The locomotive has to be taken to pieces to fit the decoder

cheers Brian.W

I have Atlas, Proto 1000 and 2000 and Rivarossi.  I have fitted Loksound decoders to 10 locos so far.  I strip everything out, replace the globes with LEDs and hardwire in the decoder.  There is more than enough room once the old board is gone for the decoder and speaker.  Every one runs well.  Boring? - I know . . .

The new TCS DP2X-UK decoder fits a wide range of locos, including most RTR DCC ready steam locos, including the Hornby M7 (without having to make any modifications to the bodywork or remove weights) as it is a plug and play decoder without wires.

I just checked out this link:

http://www.tcsdcc.com/decoderpics/Hornby%20Deans%20Good%200-6-0/hornby_deans_good_0_6_0_P1.htm

……..in readiness for fitting a decoder to my new Dean.

The trouble is, all the pictures seem to have gone. Can anyone else access them?

Just about all the other locos described show pictures, but not the one I wanted - the Dean! Never mind. I've found a work-around and downloaded the images another way. As has already been said, they don't help that much anyway in this particular instance.. :???:

Reg, if the loco has 8 pins. the decoder will fit but if they do not run well, remove capacitors.

Sol, as a fairly new DCC user, here's today's daft question. I've seen the quote "remove capacitors" a few times. Does this mean just cut them off at the legs and that's it? Or should the ends then be soldered together?

Cut them off at the legs as close to the soldered  connection.

If you joined the legs up, then you will have a short across the motor which is NBG.

Ron .  I think my Lima loco's are too old to have 8 pin sockets , will have a look tomorrow (again) . so i may have to revert to the solder iron and heat shrink sleeving. They used to work on dc but have been out of use for about 5 years so will run them for a while on dc first.  Thanks .will let you know what happens.:thumbs
