Of course, the LEDs do not have to be very small ones in every application to transmit the light. Any source of illumination will transmit the light along the fibre optic cable, which is brilliant, because you can use whatever light source is best suited to your application.Do these LED's come ready wired with + & - marked Ian ? They seem pretty tiny to me ………….

Rapid ElectronicsWhere did you get your mini SMD units from Ian?

A whole variety in colours and white of various sizes http://www.rapidonline…ronics/Surface-Mount-Leds
Buy more than you need as they are very easy to misplace! ;-)
Rapid are also good for wire, switches, conventional LEDs, resistors, diodes, etc..
Lawrence - just use them like standard LEDs, run from a decoder with a 1K - 2k resistor in series.

One source is DCC concepts in Western Australia.
They also have oo/ho scale working end of train lanterns with wires attached. EG those that were hung on the rear of brake vans etc

From left to right:
Standard 3mm LED
Side-view LED (for modern BR tail lamps)
Axial LED for older style lamps - as on the OO coach behind
SMD LED
DCC Concepts 4mm scale lamp

^The same just get a pickup off the track via your coach/wagon wheels, the resistor and off you pop. Obviously it will only light as long as the track has voltage or feed it off a switchable battery?

ECOS2 with RR&Co Traincontroller and a load of other electronics so i can sit back and watch the trains go by.

You'll need a VERY small match for the scale oil lamp.Ian Morton wrote:………. and for the dc Luddites amongst us?

Yes, no problems. Those are tiny Ian. Have you tried them ?
Just connect them up using appropriate resistor to give brightness of choice.
DCC Concepts also have modern road vehicles with working head/tail lights.

It's a good time to raid the shops for sell- off Xmas decorations as a source of fibber optics.

Are these the ones that don't quite come out with a true light??…….. as a source of fibber optics.
