.........apart from Hornby

Apart from the Hornby's products, are there any other manufacturers that make point motor decoders?

Lenz, ESU, Digitrax, Gaugemaster, Bachmann (rebadged ESU) and a variety of others that are not so easy to find at model shops.

When choosing Perry bare in mind what type of point motor you have i.e. peco/seep solenoids or slow mo motors such as Tortoise or Cobalt. Some decoders will operate both types, others will only do one sort.

When choosing a good guide is cost per point i.e how many points a single decoder will operate which is usually 4,6 or 8.

I have no plans to fit point decoders to my layout, but I have been in discussion with someone who might fit them to his. I will pass that information on to him. He's not a member on here, and doesn't have internet access to research it himself.

Thanks all.

One of the easiest to use is the Team Digital SMD82 - works off track power, will operate 8 turnouts using any combination of solenoid or slow motion motors.  Won't operate Fulgurex or some of the more obscure motors, though.

Slighty off topic bit I have a installed a fewTraintronics TT300 Digital point  motors - one unit with a decoder and motor  - easy to install and very quiet and realtively price effective as you are getting a decoder and motor

:cheers.

I use and would recommend the ones from MERG. Ok you have to be a member but once you've joined (the fee is small) you have access to a wealth of knowledge and other kits. The point decoder kits they have available are suitable for solenoid or stall motor types and are very good value for money IMHO.
