Everything live even when using insulated joiners??

Hi Ron thank you for your reply, I have read so many ways of not
"Bending" track pins, but, I thought that I could get away without using them, I just didn't realise that the metal rail joiners would cause the track to bounce and give me the problems that they did. Another lesson.

"bending" track pins !!!
Not if you pre-drill sleepers & baseboard with a slightly smaller drill than track pins.
Metal rail SHOULD NOT cause track to create bounce if you have trimmed away some of the spikes on sleepers so the joiners slide under the rail and clears any plastic of the sleepers.
Of course Peco turnouts need to be pinned down in the centre at least as they tend to bow upwards a bit.

I remember an old Railway Modeller magazine of the 1960's in one layout, the owner ran his trains full speed forwards & backward after laying track to make sure not only his rolling stock was perfect ( well, almost perfect) but so was track & spent hours getting all things working spot on. Of course he never ran them full speed under normal operations but wanted to make sure of his efforts in building a layout would be almost faultless.

Hi Ron. The drilling technique is one that I have considered, the best of the bunch! But when my L 94 (with steam effects) shunted up and down the straight at a very slow Pace (speed did not come into it) and the track was just sitting on the baseboard I didn't consider that the points would not lay flat without pinning or glueing. But now I have learnt another lesson , one of many,    all the best Kevin
