Converting from DCC to DC

I'm a DC philistine!

Can one of you DCC users please tell me how I can convert  a DCC fitted loco back to DC operation?

My wife has bought me a Bachmann BR standard 3 tank for Christmas, only problem is it is DCC fitted!
I want to remove the decoder and wire the loco for Dc so it will run on my layout.

I haven't looked yet but I suspect the decoder plugs into a (8pin?) socket.
If I remove (unplug) the decoder, which pins do I have to link on the socket to run it on DC?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Cheers
And a happy new year!

Frank you will probably find the loco will run fine on a dc layout although its a dcc fitted loco

Most decoders by default have the decoder set to use in dc operation .

If you removed the decoder its probably an 8 pin one you need to replace the plug with whats called a blanking plate
That basically makes connections across a few of the socket connections

There possibly could be one in the spares pack in the loco.

i would be surprised if i did not work on a dc layout thou.

I can tell you what wires to connect what pins to what if you have not got a blanking plate

try it out im sure it will run under dc

READ THIS BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR LOCO ON DC:-

http://www.hornby.com/digital/dcc-faq,171,HAR.html

If you scroll down to the RED DCC FITTED icon you will see a sentence which says:- It also means it is not suitable to be used on a conventional DC/Analogue layout.

Sorry, a bit hasty there. I now realise that you have a Bachmann loco not a Hornby. Even so, I would read this:-

http://www.bachmann.co.uk/faq1.php?id=234

It starts by saying that you can run on DC, but it then adds several caveats!! It also tells you how to change to DC.

Geoff, that Hornby comment goes against normal DCC concepts that even DCC fitted locos will work under DC unless the decoder has had this function disabled via CV29 change.

Thanks all for the constructive replies.
I think the problem will soon be resolved thanks to a certain Camborne emporium supplying a blanking plug.
Cheers everyone!
