Hi can anyone give me a good solution to wiring my street lamps? i have 12 to wire and at the moment the only way i know is to connect the wires to a set of connector blocks which has been linked to each one on one side with wire and the put the wires from the lamps to the other side. the trouble i have is that the wire from the street lamps are very fine and seem to snap out of the blocks once tightened. i am absolutely hopeless at soldering so is there another solution please?

It will be difficult to do it without soldering Andy. The best way is to run a separately powered bus and connect each light to it in parallel by soldering each light to the bus wire.

You can also get lighting control units which allow you to vary the brightness of the lights. Here is a link to one produced by DCC Concepts which is what I use. It's about half way down the page. http://www.dccconcepts.com/index_files/DCCmasterscenelamps.htm

Just seen this. One way is to twist the wires together and use heatshrink tubing. This holds them well enough if you put no strain on them.

Hi Andy,

The only way to do them correctly is to solder them as already advised. (Don't forget the resistors if they are LED's) Again as "chinahand" as already stated a seperate bus wire can be the easiest method.

Those little wires are a pig. If you really do not want to solder another way is to twist in a larger thickness piece of wire, both with the plastic insulation stripped back, this is provided you have sufficient length of wire from your lights. Use this now thickened wire to jam into the chocolate block connector. Screw it in place and trim back the excess large wire. I am not sure this would work if you want to add resistors though.
