will the peco CDU take a 24 volt power supplely aright   

I would suggest not too, just a maximum of 18v AC ( which will give about a 24-26v DC pulse) because unless you know the working voltage of the capacitors, the new output voltage maybe too high & thus blow up the capacitors.
