Hi all…at the moment i am wiring new points control boards to include leds for point/route set using a micro-minitures control board….i would also like to include leds at the isolated sections to indicate live/dead rail, i fitted an irj to the live rail and bridged it fitting an on/off toggle switch and then just painted red/green dots…. i would like leds at these positions, how can i wire and what bits do i need to achieve this using DC?:hmm

old board showing point positions and isolation switches..

EDIT:..Ok … have found some info on forum and brian lamberts model rail site ,if i read it right i need DPDT…ON/ON switches.. to combine (using one switch) for isolating rail switching and control leds using a seperate 12v supply tapping of as required.

question!!…should i supply the 12v from its own transformer or can i take it from the 12v supply into the micro-miniture point/route set position led controller:hmm

Dave, you are doing something I would have never done in my many years of DC wiring, that is, instal LEDS let alone having coloured dots to indicate on/off.
Using toggles like you have ( I used pushbuttons), the position of the toggle lever is normally adequate.
Yes, then a DPDT is needed- one set of contacts for the isolating rail connection and the other for LEDs.
But outside of that, not knowing the circuit of the "micro-miniture point/route set position led controller", I guess it would be OK for the panel LEDs to use the same 12v supply making sure that the LEDS are either 12v type with inbuilt resistor or at least a 680 ohm resistor in one of the LED power wires.

Hi Sol..thanks for reply…i will tap into the 12v supply to the micro-miniture control board,it saves me having to buy another 12v transformer….i wanted to bling the board:cool wink…  as i was doing the point/route direction leds i may as well do isolated sections as well..when my grandson visits he likes the point changing bit, these would help him (and me)set routes etc…:Happy
