You can pick up a simple forward/reverse controller ex a split down train pack for around £15 including the transformer. I doubt you'd buy the materials for that price ……………
Have you tried e-bay ? Ah, sorry, I realise you actually want to build one ………:thumbs In that case, ignore my previous comments ……….:roll:

Going down the road of simple but affective analogue linear control using 2 x LM338T voltage regulators both independent of each other gives me 5 amps x 2 options which i doubt i will get close to using all that power.
My transformer is fairly future proof at 300 VA and twin secondary windings, about 25 amps available should keep things ticking over for a while, once complete i will post some pictures.
Over the last few days ive just been gathering information of all up to date practices, but plan to make a start on our layout soon. :cool wink
