I need to replace my controller, I did have this bachmann that came with a starter set. The throttle control was very good on these and very responsive at low speeds. But it developed a fault (slight burning smell and the loco running at full speed even when the throttle switch was only turned up slightly)
IMG_7067.jpeg I have been using this hornby controller for now but it’s not very responsive at low speeds and will be replacing it.  IMG_7066.jpeg I was thinking of getting one of these, my budget is not very high so don’t want to spend more than £50 and don’t want to buy second hand. Does anyone have any experience with this model or can recommend another brand.  IMG_7065.jpeg

Great controller for small layouts.

Can't go wrong with Gaugemaster

Although my N gauge layout is DCC I have a Combi powering the Kato electric points.

It's also used to run the layout with DC, for testing locos.

Good choice. I am running Wombat Creek Tramways with a similar controller without any problems.

Cheers,

Just tested the new gaugemaster controller, very good and smooth. Excellent performance at slow speed.

The hornby controller if you can call it that has a dead zone from 0 up to about a quarter of a turn, then the loco made a terrible whining noise before whizzing off. No control whatsoever.

Hi all

I have just received an offer from Apollo Controllers in Australia.  They are sending me a controller as the owner is a subscriber to my YouTube channel!!!

Such generosity!!

It is going to take a few weeks to get here but I will let you know how it performs when it arrives.

Anyone from Oz on here that has had experience of them?  They look cool…….

No experience, but good on them. You don't often see such generosity nowadays.

Cheers Pete.

Not sure how you define "slow speed" Graham but to me, that's fast (on the YouTube clip).

If you want to experience proper slow running, you'll have to move to DCC - you can have a cup of coffee/tea whilst waiting for a single revolution of a driving wheel !!

That’s slow Ed, I can’t quite get mine going that slow without stalling. But I can get it going slow enough for shunting.
