Model Rail - Feb 2009 - Highland Railway Page 84/85

As you all know that I have my specific interests in the Highland Railway I felt compelled to send the note below today to Model Rail re their recent article :

"As a born and bred Highlander and an avid Highland Railway modeller, I was delighted to see your Scottish issue that included reference to the Highland Railway. However I did note that there were a few inconsistencies that could be misleading to someone reading your article.

The dates shown on the table for Chief Engineers is incorrect and omits David Urie. The table should read as follows :

W Stroudley 1865-1870
D Jones 1870-1896
P Drummond 1896-1912
FG Smith 1912-1915
C Cumming 1915-1922
D Urie 1922-1923

The location of Dornoch on your map is incorrect as this shows the poor folks of Dornoch have been relocated south to the Black Isle! Your map actually shows the old Fortrose branch line. The old Dornoch branch line was further north  and terminated on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth.

I enjoy the format of the magazine and hope to see more of your coverage of pre-grouping companies."

Keep your head down Darren, I can see a request from the publishers for an article on your area of specialisation coming your way. :mutley:mutley

Hope everybody is doing well. I ended up rather longer on my overseas trip to Algeria - it ended up being three weeks and then I had to go to Singapore for my Brother-in-Laws Wedding , so here I am in Singapore. I managed to get to WH Smiths before getting on the plane and grab some model railway mags - I saw that my response was printed in the magazine (fame at last eh!?)

Some hobby shops here but prices that would make your eyes water….

Yes, I know Marty I had better watch out!! There really is a lack of apparent historical data - there is one book out there on LMS Sheds (its hard to get) that covers the Highland region but the going rate of GBP60 is a bit rich for a tight fisted highlander…
