Start of sky painting
:hiAll, While waiting for delivery of track parts, Thought I would swipe the paint brush over some of my backboards.Just starting on the sky and trying for the moment to keep it low key,
Photo,s are a bit dull, Big rain shower coming over and the light is not good.
Any hints and tips welcome!
regards,
Derek

Due to cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

I really just want an outline sky until the landscape painting starts to take shape? Then if its okay can work in the final colour choices.
2 Photos same scene, sky a little more defined I hope.

I used a photo I took in Wales when I visited the location of my prototype railway.
I tried to study where the colour is, where the white washes out the colour, where the highlights and shadows are on the clouds and try and match the generic pattern.
Subtle is good.
But sometimes you just have to throw in a thunderstorm….

I love your cloud effect and the colours and tones :thumbs.
Good idea useing a photo, I find myself looking out at through the skylight looking at a sky thats always changing.
You have got to be darn fast with a brush to capture a good bit!
Thanks,

Do read MikeC's tutorials, it's what I did! I couldn't have done it otherwise.
And my colours were mostly Jo Sonja's acrylics in an off white and a grey, blended as I went, on the back scene, but with tiny dabs of yellow, pink, black and pure white to bring out the highlights and shadows.
Have fun

Gives us a great target to aim for with our own backscenes.
All the best,
