Ive just started painting my first backscene having never painted anything before.

Its a ceiling high scene and this is the first corner of the layout.

Started off with sky

Then moved onto some hills and fields

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Looks alright to me Shaun, good effort I'd say.

I've little to add either, save 'planting' some green stuff at the edge of the board where it joins the back scene to disguise the right-angled join.

That looks very impressive for a first go and the colours look right. I am sure there is a tutorial on backscenes somewhere here on the forum.

I did the sky first, the blue is a mix of ultramarine and cobalt blue, I started at the top and worked my way to the bottom adding more white as I went down. While the sky was still wet I did the clouds, lightly spread some white paint on with a brush and then used my finger to blend in the clouds.

For the landscape I started with a light green base, then added the fields and trees/hedges between them. I used my finger dipped in water to blend the top of the hills into the sky. I will probably touch it up more again though.
