Right for my module i need to print the hangers at Shoreham Airport for my backscene. I had a think :hmm and talk with John (trainzp) who thought it was a good idea. Now i do not want a flat pic in the background but something like a i think a low relief building?.

So the idea is to print them off and lay on thick card and stick to the back wall, thus giving it a bit of depth, with me so far, no, neither am i but i am getting there, :thumbs.

Now my questions are as follows, what size do i print it off and how do you set the size on the printer, how do i toan the colour down a bit.

The size is going to depend on how big you want the hangers to be and how big the original photo is.

I suggest printing one at 100% and putting it where you want it to be on your backscene.

Then compare it's size with something like the Metcalfe engine or goods shed you already have.
If it looks too small or to big, you should be able to increase or decrease the scale of the photo when you print it in the printer dialogue box.

Depending on your printer type you might also be able to tone the colour down in you printer dialogue box too.
Look for brightness and contrast tools and experiment until you get what you want.

Alternatively you could open the photo image in a photo editing package and adjust the size and tone using the software.
You might be able to do the editing in Paint or Powerpoint.

Print in black and white only while you are experimenting to save your colour cartridges.

Another way is to take the photo down to the local library and play with their photocopier if it allows size changes, might cost you a couple of bob depending on how much they charge per print.

Someone may have a better idea, hope that helps.

The hangars at Shoreham are quite a decent size.  They also come in a selection of shapes, sizes and ages which makes them a very god subject to model.  There should be both challenges and interest in this one as it goes along.

Being familiar with the area I'll also be watching!

Posting a pic, now then. I spent a hour looking for one last night could i find one, could i heck. So i shall carry my search on and post one soon as i have it. Thanks for advice, oh i have no photo package installed by the way.

Phill if it is near to you you could take your own photos and adapt them to what you want.

or this one, this would be hard to continue on really due to the the fact i would only include the pic of the main airport building. No hang on i could cut that out and just the either of the 2 ends together :hmmerm, take a look >>

can you explain a bit more what you are trying to achieve i presume this is for one of your modules printing your own backscene is a great idea but it does need to look right and not out of place there are a number of things you need to consider .

Hhm!  Still not sure what you are trying to achieve, Phil.  Do they have to be those buildings particularly, or just some 'generic' hanger type buildings?

How far behind the railway line would they be in your scenario, and what length of backscene do you have to cover?  A length and hieght would help.

If you can use a levelled tripod [or a brick] with your digicam to photograph in high quality about 90* of that sort of view in slightly overlapping shots, e-mail them to me, I'll try and stitch them together in an A4 size chunks to make a 'back-background' in front of which you may stick your hanger pictures, perhaps?
