Ok i have had a bit of luck. My future son in law's dad works partime for a printing company. Well he cam round with some real mocoy backscemes for oo gauge railways, :doublethumb. They are some house's and hills and farm scene's. Now i got the hardboard for them but i was wondering do i use wallpaper paste to stick them down and then leave for a few hours to dry or something?

Yep Wallpaper Paste it the way to go :thumbs

It makes it easy to adjust them, helping to get them all straight, and in line, you can also by using a wallpaper brush get all the bubbles out.

Phill unless you've got experience of hanging wallpaper I'd go with double-sided sticky tape, A lot depends on what quality paper the prints are on. Yes a brush will get air bubbles out but if you get wrinkles (in the paper that is!) you will find them hard to get out.

With double sided sticky tape get the broadest you can find and stick three strips lengthwise on the board (top, middle, and bottom. then,having rolled your backscene up,square it to the board and slowly unroll it, pressing it down with your hand as you go. the only disadvantage is you only get one go so prep it carefully!

Yes i think these are ones that are not for sale in shops, just ordered or they seem to be. I have a few, well 4 or 5 and if i decide not to use all of them i shall put the ones left up for grabs on here, so we shall have to wait and see.

I've had great success brushing on a thin coat of PVA, then using my daughters hairdryer on medium. Result, no airbubbles and a smooth job.

When I last hung some backscenes (on my old layout), it was suggested to me that I should prepare the backscenes by first using wallpaper sizing, which seals the back of the paper and stiffens it as well. Let that dry properly, then stick it to the backscene boards, using either wallpaper paste or thinned PVA glue. For the most part that worked well, with only a couple of wrinkles appearing, more because the hardboard I used warped slightly in a couple of places.

Backscenes for Newton Broadway will use photographic quality paper on 6mm MDF, so warping should not be a problem for me this time.
