Can anyone help?

Well I'm glad you put them in Trevor - I probably would have spent hours doing them!

Look good don't they?

And Bob, that's exactly how they are in my file.

That's a fairly comprehensive site Bob.  I looked in the photo section and I have to say, some of the layouts on here are of equal quality. :thumbs

wow - they are really good - but how do I use them?

and specifically - how do I re-scale for N gauge???

I've had to re-design due to marriage breakdown - got about 15% into build, but have to make it more 'portable' now - these bakdrops look great!

I have been working behind the scenes ( I know,,, sounds ironic doesn't it) with Ken and produced a backdrop which is a conglomeration of the Number 3 one in that group of 4.

I took the picture, made a copy and reversed it to make what should be an 8ft x 1 ft backdrop, merging at the lines. It is not symettrical so someone should have a hard time picking that it is two pictures not one

It should also take a bit of compression as well to fit smaller sizes. The problem arises coming to printing it in the initial PDF form as I did, did not work for Ken nor myself. Only the first page printed Can anyone on the UK side proffer a solution please or are larger paper strips available and able to be fed into inkjet printers? Thanks but otherwise  have fun and hope it helps you,

Regards

Trevor

Trevor,
When you say it did not work….can you elaborate please?
Did it only print the first page and no more?
If that is the case… have you tried taping pages together so that it reads the paper as one page even though it will be x pages long!

Trevor,
forget my last suggestion unless you only want an 8"High Backdrop. Just realised it would not work.

Hi Khris

I have edited the previous page again and found that the edit that I intended "did not take" so I have answered some of your questions. If it is to be taped, the JPG would have to be resized to 8 inches tall to go through most printers.

I have been using A4 sized sticker paper for a few tasks and thought that might be a possibility for Ken but maybe print services for odd sizes are cheaper or more readily available over there…

Your suggestions are welcome,

Thanks for responding so quickly,

Regards

Trevor

If you have the file as a jpg, then Posteriza will print it as a banner on multiple sheets of A4 paper that you can then just paste together onto your backboard.

Hi
Your ink jet printer should be able to print in a user defined mode and you can set height and width to what you want to print upto 2330mm. Amazon sells banner rolls of photo paper in a4 width by 10 Mtrs use this link to view http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-Supplies-Premium-Glossy-Photo/dp/B00009VF7D
Hope this is of some help

I have the Windward ones and some similar size sky sheets, I've done a bit of editing to improve the "joins" between scenes, my printer is an OKI colour laser and will print A4 width i.e 210mm by 1 metre, I have some OKI banner paper 210x900mm.  As for the 8" high limitation  I cut the sky off from the scenic sheets and stick them over the bottom of the sky sheets which gives me about a 12" high backscene, (this is in N gauge) see if you can spot the three joins

This is one of the joins, not perfect in this shot

but with a few touches of acrylic (may yet need a hedge between two of the fields)  and an the case of the foreground maybe buildings, here just plonked down, not planted, may not be their eventual spot, not happy with the colour of the stone, probably replace with more Metcalfe ones like the one part visible at left. Note also change in track plan. The Sky join is probably as near perfect as I can get. I have edited the sky sheets such that the 4 sheets repeat, call them a,b,c, & d the right hand end of d will match the left hand end of a, so you have a 12' repeat, if you look closely at the approximate centre of the part in the centre window you can see  there is a mirror image of a bit of sky, not so easy to see from a normal view.

Sheets of the OKI banner paper work out at a bit less than £0.50p and laser toner is a damned sight cheaper per page than inkjet. A 3' sheet probably costs me somewhat less than £1, maybe as little as 60 or 70 pence.

Pic 25 in the series posted by Trevor is Corfe Castle in the Purbeck hills in Dorset, about 16 miles from here, so I may well have a go at that and try and overlay it on my backscene, as that is the area I'm trying to depict, hence most buildings being in stone

Cheers MIKE

Why are skys in backdrops nearly always beautiful blue summer skys. You never seem to get overcast or bad weather in model railway land

It's somewhere there in the small print on your modellers licence,  "Excessive cloud prohibited" ,  it's as mandatory as the mouse in a Cuneo painting!
