L / H point not straight as it is meant to be

Hi All. I have had a Peco L/ H point in a safe place since I purchased it. But now I have discovered that the R/ H rail is more like a banana. But it is not supposed to be a “ Point on a Curve “ . Has anyone else had this problem???   Best wishes Kevin 

whats the code number on the point/turnout Kevin are you sure you have not purchased a curved point by mistake as that would look like a bannana.

Hi Bill and Brian. Thank you for your replies. It is definitely supposed to be straight,  number SL- E 189 . Of course when I said banana I was exaggerated somewhat. But the important thing it puts the track out of true, and I thought that they had a “ Quality Control Team “ well this one must have been a “ Friday Afternoon going home time job “Best wishes Kevin

Kevin when you said its bent like a banana do you mean it does not lay flat on the baseboard or do you mean bent like the pictures Chris and I posted?

Hi Brian.  No, for a Peco Point it is fairly flat. What I meant the left hand goes to the left, like it should, but, the straight R/H wants to “veer “ to the right.   Best wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin,

If the plastic was not fully cured it will shrink and bend. John Kendall ( "Brossard") had this issue. Hair dryer on hot and some pins through the sleepers while it cools or a couple of copper clads will fix it. Does stock derail?

So a ruler on the right hand side shows it is slightly curved ? That is no real problem if it is a slight curve; pin it down at the frog end in both diverging tracks & then move to the middle, impart a slight sideways movement to start to straighten it, pin it again in the middle, then move to the toe & pin it twice.

I was going to point out that points can get pretty pointless, unless they point where they are supposed to. The point is that these points point somewhere else. Which pointing a finger at the point or Peco will not resolve.


If you applied a hot soldering tip to the sleepers when adding a wire that can cause shrinkage, which will distort the outer rhs rail. If you run a wagon through by hand does it derail? It can be forced back. Do you have can OO rail gauge? I would buy another one.


I have had this issue with spare turnout sleepers from Peco.
