The last time you seen the Scotsman must have been just before she was loaded on a ship for the tour 'down under'. I thought it was great for her to come here. It definately kept me busy, chasing her taking photos !

Whilst we all realise very little of the "real" Flying Scotsman remains after all these years, it's a pity they've decided to renumber her.

Very true Peter,
The loco has been changed so much over the last 90 odd years that it is basically impossible to present her in absolute historical appearance. As for the number, the Flying Scotsman was also numbered 103 and 502, as well as 4472… When she returns to the rails, she will be in the guise of her final days on the BR.
Cheers, Gary.

The Adam's Radial Tank (last survivor on the Bluebell Railway). Now there's a locomotive to get worked up about.

The fact that this particular locomotive - or at least the one carrying the name originally, was the first to officially achieve 100mph (I thought that was accredited to City of Truro -albeit with some doubt), and also setting the record for the longest non-stop run by a steam loco, probably has something to do with it's reputation.
As I've said, the loco itself, 1472/4472/103/502 or whatever, probably only has the nameplate and half a coupling remaining as original.
Whilst it may well be the Adams Radial was an extremely useful (and attractive) workhorse and is probably a popular locomotive to bluebells, I suspect in a vote, something slightly more "exciting" would carry the day ……………….:roll::roll: It's a bit like asking for a vote on preserving either a Mini Clubman or a Ferrari 250 GTO …………………..:cheers:cheers:cheers

With only 32 examples having been made, I doubt you'll find one on the pages of "Auto Trader" …………… It seems one sold in 2013 for $14.3 million US …………………:shock:

This is where I got my $14.3 million - although I admit, I did have to dig a bit to find the English, rather than the French text. I first saw it reported in "Figaro", a French newspaper :
Bloomberg - Are you a robot?
p.s. How did we get from Flying Scotsman's running number to Ferrari 250 LM's …………:hmm

Though I guess if one can buy a Ferrari 250 GTO, then insurance costs would not be a concern.
OK, now back to the topic…..

I think the Clubman would be more appropriate - it's sort of "boxy" like a railcar so, as I prefer the Ferrari, it lets me out ……….
Off you go Terry (and maybe Sol) - we're watching ……..:cheers
