Just a "Plain Jane" of a workhorse Perry but a wonderful old girl. I remember them well as a youngster - all the lads rushed to see the big Pacifics and such like in York station leaving poor old B1 to sulk and wish she too were beautiful, in the bay platforms !!!

Do you really think so, Petermac? I think she has a character all of her own and is 'beautiful' in her own right. :D She's a 'proper' loco - and no mistake!

I too think they have their own character. I mean these where built to work not to cruise and so no need for fancy stuff on it. She is lovely, is she working or is it the pic, cant see any steam coming off her?.

She was just coasting through gently, Phill. I would have preferred a picture of her really working, but wasn't fortunate enough to get that shot on this trip. Maybe next time?

I DO think she has plenty of character Perry - it was as school boys we shunned her for the "big beautiful" ones !!

You do have to admit, as a lad of 12 or 13, given the choice of standing on Platform 8 in York, alongside "Sir Nigel Grasley" or "A.H. Peppercorn" hauling the "Northumbrian" or some other "crack" express to that magical place called Kings Cross or standing on platform 14 alongside the hard working B1 with a train of coal wagons or the 11.35 to Scarborough, where would you have been ?

She DOES have character, she IS powerful and she most definitely IS a proper locomotive but, unfortunately, she IS "normal" !!!!
