Trawling through photo files I found these pics of a warehouse I built from scratch a couple of years ago. I followed my usual method of drawing the plans in Photoshop, printing them off, sticking onto 1.5 or 2mm card and constructing a carcase: ![]() Then I cover the carcase in Das clay, and before it dries I scribe bricks/blocks/field stone using any sharp tool that comes to hand. Here one gable end has been done. You don't have to do all the walls at once, as the Das will blend in quite well. ![]() Walls completed and ready for painting: ![]() The completed warehouse: ![]() ![]() I fitted internal lighting using LEDs, but they dont show up too well in daylight. The last picture shows the office - here the LED desk lamp does have some effect: ![]() I was quite impressed with that final picture - it shows the stonework off much better than it really is! The camera lying for a change! The building ended up going to a club member for his personal layout. Shaun. |

That'll do, Shaun. Good work. Stonework reminds me of the flint walls to be seen in some areas. ____________________ http://dddioramas.webs.com/ 11 + 2 = 12 + 1 |

Shaun, A very effective result, I'd lke to try this, do you ever have problems with the DAS failing to adhere to the card? Do you need to prime the card at all? I'd like to do a tumble-down shed thing [as if Stubby hasn't cornered that market!] Doug ____________________ 'You may share the labours of the great, but you will not share the spoil...' Good questions, Doug, I have another project in mind (not a shed this time) which would be best done using DAS on a card base. How thick / thin can the DAS be - does it matter ? Shaun, I like the way you've done the woodwork too. Stu ____________________ Stubby47's Model Buildings - http://www.styubby47.co.uk All photos I post are ©Stu Hilton, but are free for use by anyone. Appreciate the praise, though I have to say, Stu and Doug - you both beat me hands down with the stuff you achieve! And Pete, I have loved your dioramas for years. To answer the queries- I coat the card with a thin brushing of neat PVA, and press the Das onto to it while its still wet. My oldest example is three years old, and the clay is still stuck solidly to the card. Thickness of the Das varies from 1 to 3mm. HTH Shaun. (more examples on MRG) |

Stu, sorry I missed your reference to the woodwork - it's various textures downloaded from CG textures and then manipulated in Photoshop. They really do have an incredible range, well worth looking at - and free, as well, which is my main criteria! Shaun. |

That's a good site for reference, too, Shaun. I particularly noticed the Farmland section. Good templates for creating realistic planting etc.,. ____________________ http://dddioramas.webs.com/ 11 + 2 = 12 + 1 |
