It's difficult to appreciate colours due to the differences in lighting, monitor settings, cameras, etc., but I would say tend towards the grey side of blue. I think that too many layouts have a really bright blue sky which just doesn't look 'right' - especially if you're representing a summer like we're having at the moment! Thanks Perry ![]() ![]() ![]() I really just want an outline sky until the landscape painting starts to take shape? Then if its okay can work in the final colour choices. 2 Photos same scene, sky a little more defined I hope. ![]() ![]() |

Coming along nicely. I used a photo I took in Wales when I visited the location of my prototype railway. I tried to study where the colour is, where the white washes out the colour, where the highlights and shadows are on the clouds and try and match the generic pattern. Subtle is good. But sometimes you just have to throw in a thunderstorm.... ![]() ____________________ Marty N Gauge, GWR West Wales Newcastle Emlyn Layout. Newcastle Emlyn Station is "Under construction" |

Thanks Derek, you just have to preserve until it looks right. Took me 4 days over the Christmas holidays and three complete repaints with the base blue/white to get it to where I wanted. Do read MikeC's tutorials, it's what I did! I couldn't have done it otherwise. And my colours were mostly Jo Sonja's acrylics in an off white and a grey, blended as I went, on the back scene, but with tiny dabs of yellow, pink, black and pure white to bring out the highlights and shadows. Have fun ____________________ Marty N Gauge, GWR West Wales Newcastle Emlyn Layout. Newcastle Emlyn Station is "Under construction" |
