Scratchbuilding can throw up problems with detail. I thought members might be interested in my method of building the arches above windows and doors, tunnels and portals, bridges and bell towers. It's quite simple and can be varied with the finish required (brick, stone etc.). Those illustrated below are intended to be rough stone If it were brick I would cut twice as many grooves between. First draw a 'Spiders Web' including the size of arch you require. The rotary hole cutter will give a guide line for cutting. The 'no ridge' plastic cutter will give mortar gaps between the stones/bricks. ![]() Cut in half so that you have two of each. ![]() Cut to release the arch and finish as required. ![]() These are the tools I've used: ![]() Hope this is of interest to someone. ____________________ http://dddioramas.webs.com/ 11 + 2 = 12 + 1 |

Thanks, James. Instead of making what is needed at that moment, I usually make several in different sizes to make a small stock, as shown. Of course, it's in plastic. ____________________ http://dddioramas.webs.com/ 11 + 2 = 12 + 1 |

See the 3rd post in http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=5869&forum_id=14&highlight=goods+shed A very similar idea. Perhaps using a compass cutter gives a smoother curve? Perry ____________________ Due to cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off. |

They are both in the Index next to each other so you pays your money and takes your pick.

Yes, for bricks I would complete the cut with the compass cutter.
