First and last visit to this complete let down of an event, ripped off from minute 1, way too much crammed in leaving little space to move around, cant wait for the Perth show in June! Anyway a load of piccies for you, when I could get in to take them! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for taking the trouble to post all these, Lawrence. Some of the layouts look very well done. Some interesting cameos of the people, as well. A couple having an intense discussion and a nice shot of the bouncer on the Gaugemaster stand. ![]() There seems to have been a spread of themes. Pity about the venue. ____________________ Max Port Elderley |

Some cracking photos in there Lawrence.Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it,though. Its annoying when a show is so crowded that you can't enjoy it,because these bigger shows normally charge you more as well,so you end up feeling doubley hard done by!! Doncaster was a similar tale, but even more overcrowded than this looked. Hope you enjoy the Perth show. Cheers,John.B. ![]() |

I was going to crop and edit them all, but really was too knacked when I got home, they are all on my photobucket account which you should be able to view and if anyone wants any original shots let me know and I can email them on. |

Thanks for putting them up Lawrence. Nice to see pics of shows I don't get to. There is no real answer to the overcrowding. I've been to Spalding when it's been three deep for the popular layouts. Trouble is when you get to the front it's break time so there is nothing running. Chris |

I was there on Friday as well Lawrence and I agree. If Friday is supposed to be the quiet day, I hate to think what Sat and Sun must be like. Rip off all round, from catering to dealers, at £9 entry fee and £6 parking, I think this will be my last visit. I'll stick to the smaller shows like Rutherglen, Greenock, Cathcart and Bonnybridge, all excellent with reasonable prices all round and a good selection of layouts with room to move. Must try Perth in June! Regards, Alan |

I gave up going to the big shows very many years ago - in fact I think except for a couple of visits to the NEC for Warley Shows the last major one I went to was a MRC Show at Central Hall , Westminster which has got to be around 50 years ago . I have preferrred the small events , it costs less , the operators have time to chat and even occasionally ask you to help them out , you see a lot of new layouts which okay may not be "Railway of the Month Standard" but which are pretty good , theres usually room to move around in comfort without having to indulge in tactics more appropriate at the London January Department Store Sales or Twickenham during a Welsh v English International and you dont get ripped off. You will no doubt see some excellent layouts at the big shows , many of which will have appeared in the magazines and so content of the bigger shows is often similar because once on that circuit the better known layouts will be swamped with invitations. Sadly the visitor will not get much chance to decide for themelves as crowds five or six deep round good layouts are quite common and you dont see much then. Personally I dont "buy" at shows preferring to consider my purchases carefully and then support traders that are local to me , specialist or from whom I have had good service in the past. The problem with shows these days is the cost of staging them . Venues charge a fortune , transport and attendance is expensive plus advertising, printing ,signage etc etc all cost more every year so the organiser has to try to recoup from the traders and concession holders who in turn try to cover their costs by inflating what they charge Joe Public- a vicious circle. From the pictures this show looks no worse than many other big ones , some good standard layouts and some not so good, but in many pictures exhibitors outnumber visitors . The venue doesnt look anything special but I expect cost has a heavy influence on where the organisers can use. Sorry you didnt enjoy it but thanks for putting up the pictures and I suggest a healthy diet of small events would beneficial to your modelling in future. ____________________ Richard. I went to Model Rail Scotland with Lawrence and agree with evrything he said. It will also be my last visit, I think, unless I am in the are aand not requiring to travel and car park. There was not enough room for all that was in the hall and people, by people I mean the paying customer, were extremely rude. I had been standing at one layout to get some pictures and asked one gent if I could squeeze in to get a shot and he replied "Oh if you have to" ---- I did thank hime after taking the pgoto. Trade stalls were expensive thus I left without buying anything and the catering was a rip off. I am just back form a visit down to see my brother in Lancashire and will post some pictures tomorrow Cheers for now Matt |
