The bicycle has either two steel strips across the bottom of the wheels - or two of those very strong micro magnets, not in line along the wheels, they can be seen when the cyclist is coming towards you on the video clip, there's a magnet on the the loop under the board.

There are two perspex discs which revolve from the friction on the road surface and the legs are basicaly cranks, the speed of movement bluring the finer detail.   Obviously there's no battery motor on the bike......

That's how it was described to me, and I'm sure it's the Faller system, or more likely a home made version.

Somebody said at the show the trains going over the bridge also looped under the layout, as there are 6 wheel coaches in one of the trains, I'm wondering - but of course that may be some trick of sight, you see what you want to

The trains were on spikes attached to a conveyor belt.  You could see from a small viewing window to one side and they looked really odd as they came over the end of the conveyor!

It was a shame that not many people came to the agreed RV point at 1200 on Sunday as there were a lot of us there.  I marked Nick, Ralph, Andrew and me as present.   Everyone else was marked as absent, apart from Bob who has a note from Justine

Please Sir, sorry Sir but I was on my lunch break at 12 on Saturday and driving trains at 12 on Sunday.  Or was I somewhere else meeting some other bunch of folks?  Heck I can't remember.

Good weekend though.

Cheers
Dave

How big is this Warley show?

For example so most of us could understand now many Carn Brae halls would fit into the area used for the actual Warley show

Sorry about that, but as I was with Pete Waterman then, receiving the LMS Society Award, and following that having a chat  with Bob Essery and Dave Hunt about the times we had operating Bob's Dewsbury, then onto lunch were I met up with Lord and Lady MacAlpine, something had to give.  Oh, and a layout to operate, crew to keep in order.......:pathead

The floor area of Hall 5 is 24,870 sq. metres.

Warley NEC rented, I think somewhere around 16,000 sq. metres.

According to the Carn Brea Sports Hall blurb they have an 8 court badminton facility, that's 1,221 sq. metres

So that equates to about 13 Carn Brea's that the Warley Show rent's - there is of course 'outside' dining tables, plenty of chairs to rest etc too, and ALL on one level as opposed to that very narrow stair case at Carn Brea etc., etc.,

My flight was cancelled at the last Minute and by the time they had arranged another one, Sunday had come & gone.

Chris

I turned up at 12 noon on the Saturday and spoiled the meeting of the Apathy Society so went on my way.

Had to return to my accommodation at 12 noon on the Sunday to collect my watch which I had left behind, otherwise I would have been there.

Well guys, Chris and I were most hurt that you did not provide us with copious refreshment as requested.  At least the boss didn't get drunk - the stand was so tight that I didn't fancy having him falling over everything!!

Seriously, we were pretty busy on the stand and I did not have time to take photos.

I didn't think it was as busy as when I have been in previous years.

Enjoyed it anyway.

Andrew

I heard there were 200 less attendance this year.

There! Now we know how many people mevaman upset with his nude Space-hopper riding, he must have scared 'em off for good!

I made it on the Sunday and really enjoyed it. My apologies for not making any arranged meet. For what it is worth I had worked every day for the past three weeks including the previous two weekends on a big hospital software upgrade. I was just glad to have a day off and get there at all.

Penlan was impressive as were some other layouts. De Hezelpoort 1927 was a standout for me. It was almost impossible to get near it. It was surrounded by admirers every time I went past. I met the Modelrailway.TV crew and had a good chat with them. I also learnt a fair bit more about the Hornby OO Live Steam from Adrian Campbell on his stand, which was next to the first OO Live Steam exhibition layout I have seen. Very nice. The good news on that front from Hornby is their live steam production is merely on hold until economic conditions are more favourable. There is a new model (an LMS Duchess) prototype already built by the original developer/inventor. There is also a hint of a Black 5 as well but I need to verify that. I certainly hope Hornby can take them up in due course.
