Hi DD,
looks really good..... however, I was thinking of inset panels, in stone for the names, but seeing the brass plates they look just as good. The orientation of the figure/ front will be ( assuming the front of the layout is South) looking North East, so all four sides will need a names plate.
I agree with the bayonet, it will be too fragile.
Many thanks for doing this.
Stu

I can frame the brass plates if you like.
The whole thing will look better when it has its final paint and is 'dressed'.

Below are Richard's two corrugated huts showing the ravages of time and fading.

(Given the delivery problems on this task, it would have been quicker to build the real thing).

Yesterday I had a delivery from an embossed sheet manufacturer.
One sheet was virtually unusable because of flaws in the embossing.
As usual, none of the sheets were cut square.
A sign of the times.

Here is Cenotaph MkII.
I wasn't happy with the first effort as the statue was assuming caricature symptoms.

:Happy:pathead

Wow - that looks perfect !!!

I like the ironwork around the top, and the decoration by the birds.

How have you managed to do the poppy wreaths ? (If possible, please could you add some more..?)

But I'm very happy with it, thank you !

Stu

The Poppy Wreaths are made by letting a tin of matt Humbrol Red dry out for eight years and then using the resulting blobs on a cocktail stick as poppies, followed by a bullseye in the centre with a chinagraph pen.

Except for the crosses which were cut from plasticard and then little tiny weeny bitty itsy bits of red paper and similar bullseye. This gives RL sized poppies.

Stu: It will be a pain to do more as I will then need to stick them on which destroys the paint which will then have to be done again.
However, you are the customer and the customer is always right.

Peter,

Don't do it then - I'm happy as it is !!!

Honest !

Really !!

Stu

Edit : The reason for asking was the 'front' of the cenotaph was going to be facing away from the public - I'll turn it round 180° so the soldier is looking out over the harbour to sea.

Perhaps I should have made it with a sailor.

(No criticism intended of those who have made it with a sailor).

Regarding the method of making the poppies on that excellent Cenotaph DD - do I assume one has to wait 8 years before you can do another ?:lol::lol::lol:

I suppose one could leave the top off a tin and caress it with a blowlamp for similar results, Peter.

I bet someone asks for daffodils or cornflowers next - I will have to invent a different strategy.

Is your PayPal address the shipping address, Stu?
If not, perhaps you would e-mail or PM the information.
