Ok, Ok - if I might borrow a quote from a well known retailer - I'm doing it Sybil !!!

Can someone tell me why Matilda is going north to Brisbane then south to Perth before heading up north towards the equator again ?

I mentally had it down to go from Sol across to Marty then Marty to send it up to Mike and John in Brisbane for onward postage from there.

Am I safe to assume she will be ready to waltz out of Australia by January 31st ?   She needs to be in UK by February 20th for onward transit to Novice in Monrovia via a rather complicated route - the question is, do I fit in another stop-over between Australia and UK ?

Something else occurred to me - maybe we ought to use "Recorded Delivery" for all international deliveries.  That way, we can trace her in the event of a hold up.

Yeah OK, better make sure Max sends it one way or the other, all about the same here. If postal services are good, leaving here Jan 31 should be in the UK by Feb 10.
International Air post to the UK can leave from any of the capital cities, in this case Brisbane or Perth as just advised by Aust Post.

Thanks Sol. :thumbs

Given the timings, I think she'll go straight from Oz to UK for onward delivery to Novice. I can't take the risk of missing that time slot to Liberia.  Novice will then send it out to the States from there then probably Canada, South Africa then up into Europe trying to catch Sergio whilst he's in Vienna.

These time windows are proving to be a bit of a problem with Matilda - there are "tight" timings with Liberia, Canada and either Argentina or Vienna depending on where Sergio is.

Be careful with the tracking options.  The Royal Mail offer "International Signed For" but as we recently found out it only actually tracks it to delivery with the foreign country.  Once there you have no idea wosson and they cannot track it further, so actually it is pretty pointless!  Couriers offer the full tracking option but for a much higher price of course.

This Sunday after lunch I will visit Iansa, Sol and Craig and Connor, taking photos as I go.

That's not bad, seven layouts in two weekends.  Then I'll post the photos on this thread

Then I suggest that I should post it to MikeC for transmission to AUSSIETRAINS John and then to Marty.

By that time Peter should have decided where it's going next, so Marty can forward it on.

Sunday night I'll PM Mike and get his postal address, unless someone has other ideas, and then post it Monday morning.

Does anyone in Oz have an alternative plan?

Cheers

Max

I don't think he was aware of our postal system in that International mail can go from any Capital city - 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. As long as it gets to the UK to meet the deadline to post to Liberia for Novice.

Max - you're all doing sterling work down under.  I just hope all our members are as quick as lot are - it makes me wonder how you could ever have lost the ashes !!!!

Absolutely fine by me for it to go to Mike then John before heading to Marty for exit from Australia.

I'll PM you with the forwarding address in good time Marty - still not certain where it will be.  I'll also PM you with Mike's address Max - unless he's read this and already sent it to you.

Thanks again to Australia !!! :cheers:cheers:cheers:cheers

Is Matilda being regauged for her travels to the lands where the rails are only 3' 6" apart?

MikeC, John and Marty aren't used to something as wide as Stephenson used :mutley

Queenslland Rail have a special track gang working like mad on laying some standard gauge track between Brisbane and Mackay in time for Matilda,s photo shoots up north.
