I like the idea very much and wonder if we can combine it with the group module I'm proposing to build.

If I can get a small piece of model railway equipment from most of the people that join the wagon project (even if it's only a packing crate or trolley etc.) we can display the photos as a 3ft montage above the YMR group module, to illustrate the co-operation that has been involved and the geographical spread of our members.

Maybe even a world map with stick pins illustrating where each photo was taken and where each piece of equipment came from.

With the smaller internal postage costs in the UK, maybe UK members could contribute a slightly larger piece and international members something that would fit in the smallest jiffy bag??? Take your photo with the wagon on your choosen backdrop and include your contribution to the module. Photo on a dedicated thread, item included in photo to me and we'll organise the rest.

A truly international effort :exclam:exclam:exclam

Tonight I'm listing nothing because in 15 minutes I'm off out to a New Years Eve party. You need a fair bit of stamina because we get two goes at it here. One for the Spanish New Year and then another for the Brits. That hour in between makes for a lot of fun.

It is now 6.40 AM or thereabouts here in South Australia so Happy New Year to all.

Now the logo on a wagon  - I thought the Barchester Logo is what has been used as a YMR identification at some UK Exhibitions

While that looks OK for an identification, I think a bit too much colour for a wagon/van logo so I will have to think about this. A van would be better as it gives more room - publicity like the NMRA do for their Conventions

but this is something I could not do - I am not into Paint, etc type programs.

I'm not sure, given the expressed interest already, that if a single item were mailed worldwide that it need be confined to one member per country. We have numerous hands up and dawn has barely broken over the concept.

I'm happy to roll with what ever though I do like the idea of a piece of rolling stock mailed around and photographed on all of our layouts. Further I concur that something like a longer wheelbase van with basically flat sides would be easier to livery and better seen than a small 5-plank wagon.

I believe with a carefully planned route then costs could be perfectly reasonable. It should also be possible to re-use one box and packing for a couple of hops at a time as well.

Only a sugggestion, but, what if

A,.......................The piece of rolling stock was sent on it's pilgrimage of the members as suggested for the montage of

                           pictures

But

B,........................The contribution piece to the module as suggested by Jeff, be sent to a collection point instead of it

being added to the original parcel, as the people at the end of the line will have a huge postal bill

                            as the parcel gets bigger

Well, I thought a logo based on the Advert would be the way to go.

Below is my idea

The number of course would be over the van number but looking at my vans - ventilated, ideally the above needs to be a transfer/decal to allow it to sit over the upright & diagonal braces. Even thinned paper may have problems but if it was used for a VAA/VBA van, it then could be treated as a metal plate attached to the side. And those type of vans are currently not part of the D&S stock.

If the Bachmann version 38-143

(picture courtsey of KMRC )was used & the background colour of my suggestion modifed to match the van, it could be made as a metal plate sitting over the top of the EWS letters,it may look OK.

I would like to see a picture on enery member's layout who wants to be in it.  There are many members in Oz and many more in other counties.  It would make an amazing thread.

I think you need to elect a wagonmaster first as there seems to be various ideas with these wagons and you need to decide are you doing one of the ideas or all of them.

Volunteers for wagonmaster please

cheers Brian

Okay

Here are my thoughts, this project can involve a lot of members that cannot for different reasons build a module, and cannot come to the show, but can by getting involved in this project, feel a part of the show.

A large wagon painted white, then at one end the flag can be painted on from which country and then sent around members from that country ( more than one for the countries that have a lot of members) the other end can be signed by all those want to be a part, no more than four people per wagon, each time the wagon must be photographed on the members layout as well, a book or laptop can then show all the photos at the show,if we all use the same style/type of wagon, this will make up a very special train that can be run on the modules.

This will need to be organized and all the wagons sent to one person.

I don't mind helping out, but the person that all the wagons are sent to should be Dave, as he will be in charge of the Modules at the show ( that's if Dave is happy with doing this as well)

A new thread can be started as mentioned above to show progress on the wagons and the final image on members layouts, with another thread to discuss what/which wagon etc, and who is going to take part, but please don't put your name unless you will be able to complete your part, as a lot of this with depend on each member finishing the wagon and posting it on.
