In 00/H0 if I don't use card then I choose umbrella ribbing Mike. One umbrella has lasted me years. I presume they still use ribbing on modern umbrellas.

Is it the metal bits to which you are referring? Spokes?
It could be the answer to my own guttering problems.

That's right dolf, the spokes. They are a U shape usually and ideal for guttering. They also fulfill my main criteria, cheap. ;-)  ;-)
