Well Brian, you have attempted it - I have not done one myself yet - just pale blue walls but I will say, your attempt does look better than just the same colour background. | |||||||||

Brian I reckon that look pretty good! Looks a little bit overcast to me. As Ron said it's heaps better than having none at all. I think you should be pleased with the result. If you look closely at mine you'll see plenty of patchy bits, but the thing is once there are trains and buildings the backscene won't be the centre of attention so they won't be so obvious. And you still have grass and bushes to add. Acrylics are the very devil to blend smoothly and they dry a touch darker which makes invisible mending very difficult. I couldn't get by without my little spray bottle. Did you use one? No doubt in my mind that spray cans would be easier. Mike |

Brian I would be happy to have that on mine, it looks great. I think I know who can touch up the Lostwithiel backscenes now (seeing as Mike C keeps coming up with some feeble excuse about being on the other side of the planet ![]() |

Thanks for the positive comments Watching Mike doing his prompted me to have a go it has been bugging me a bit for a week or so what to do about the backscene for this hilly area i have considered printing my own from the landscpe piccys i have i have looked at commercially available ones. I decided well lets have a go i am not a artistic person but i thought it was worth a try so i popped into the Range and bought a tub of light blue acrylic paint made by Reeves and a smaller pack of Whittsh acylic paint plus a multicolur pack of different colours in small tubes plus some cheapo Brushes. I just looked at Mikes original tutorial and tried to memmorise roughly how he did it, the one in the photo was actually done in less than half an hour im not sure but i think speed is the secret so you can blend it. I did the second one this morning in a similar time . All i did was add basically add three bands of colour horizontally them blended them together i just dipped the brush in the water pot to mix up the colours painted i did not use a mister. I was actually quite surprised that it looks quite good and have already decided that its staying. To the right hand of this i may even risk painting some landscape aswell because i need a backdrop fro the town /village but i believe i will need a bit more practise at that. Plus another plus is these artists acrylics volume wise is cheaper than buying the little tins i assume it is the same paint? cheers Brian cheers Brian |

Brian you're right - speed is important because of the fast drying time. When I first took up acrylics I saw the quick drying as a fault of acrylics, but really it's a huge plus. I can't imagine there's much difference in the paints either. Mike [thrilled that someone else has had a go!] |

Has this turned into a arist's forum ![]() More than a great job you have made of the backdrop Brian, so much better than a peco one or a photograph backdrop in my view, I think this will be the first of many to learn from Mike. |
