I've never seen one of these on a model railway platform!

[Taken at the WSR]

Interesting little scratchbuild project there. Could be tackled with styrene or card.

I should have a photo somewhere of this item and I thought it would be a good "novel" build for a model railway. I've seen a few odd things on the platforms of preserved lines (no doubt all genuine, but underused) and they would bring something different to a layout.

Perhaps we, as a forum, should amass a collection of such oddities in this thread :question

Thanks for posting this one, Doug.

Good idea, how would you index/store it and under what heading?

Meanwhile, here's another one, siding gates to a private workshop, showing trap slip  points etc, again, WSR.

Hi, Jeff,

Having looked at the index thread, I now know the answer...

I guess that the best way is for members to post oddities on this thread and then I'll copy them to a thread in the prototype section called "prototype oddities"

Bob can then put a link in the index to them (when he returns from his holiday)

Come on guys (and girls) what have you got that's a little different ??

Your'e welcome.  It's the little things I tend to notice that interest me......

E.g. ..the signal cables under the barrow crossing are run in a tube in case, presumably it sinks/rots/subsides and traps the cables..?

The tapers cut on the inner corner of the crossing boards, the lower half of the starter signal ladder painted white to aid visibility.. and so on.

Wonderfully useful photos again Doug, I like the attention to detail.
I not sure that the signal cables in their tube case are going to get a look in on my N scale layout.
That is just a wee bit small even for me. :thud :thumbs

That's a good idea Jeff and pictures like the ones we have seen so far can be invaluable to modellers who are stumped for knowing how to go about this type of project. If you can gather some bits together I will gladly Index them.

Loading gauge fixed to shed door frame

Small platform mounted cabin

Line-side hut. A poor photograph, but one that shows

a.  The massive proportion of chimney to hut
b.   The colours we all miss out of our brick-papers etc.

If I had seen the chimney and hut as a model I would have said that it was all out of proportion. Just shows how careful you have to be in making these judgements. Great shot of the brickwork, talk about multi colours.

Medstead and Fourmarks - little detail of ventilator bricks, never seen this modelled and look at the colour of the corrugated on the near roof, and a building with one rendered chimney and one brick chimney.

Ropley - pit details, note rather poor track alignment!
