Now Bob, I hope you have not relented after that wild party, etc :?:

Phill, do not ask the wife for the keys to the locked up fags :!:

Those of you with the sweet tooth- drink water; just as those ex-smokers are doing.

Concentrate on painting those 2/4mm people.

Come on - it can be done - the sweats will soon be a thing of the past.

I'm all for this joint effort, as one of the biggest problems I had when trying to give up was doing it on my own. It should be a real help to have a lot of people doing it together.

One thing I've noticed, is the accompanying fall of modelling posts over the last three days, perhaps there's too many hands shaking and thick heads to be posting anything else :!: :!:

Ah well, tact was never my strongest suit, Owen :!: :!:

I recon I'm going to suspend any new threads I come up with until the "campaign" is over, as I don't think there will be many able to concentrate in a few days :!:

Jeff, there are still many of us not directly involved - just giving moral support, so keep up the flow of ideas, etc - they will catch up one day :P

I reckon, as well as the reasons previously mentioned and the concentration, or not, thereof of those participating in the challenge, that there is generally a drop in posts towards the end of the week. Some of us work and rely on the weekends for our modelling time. I guess mondays are "show and tell" and then a couple of days of comments.

Come on Bob and Phil, and any of the others that are kicking the habit, yesterdays lunch was fruit salad and yoghurt instead of my normal Thai take-away from the food hall.... and no ice-cream cone.

You can do it.

Thanks Phil, If it helps you give up the smokes and makes me feel better it'll be worth it.
I've got a couple of favourite pairs of trousers that are too uncomfortable around the middle to wear at the moment. If I can get back into them I'll be happy.

Well done mate, sounds like you have made a great start, don't waste all the effort you've made so far, you can do it.

[size=9].... did someone say cream cake...

Marty, NO, NO, no cream cake :!: :!:
I too had trousers that for some reason did not want fit after I gave up the fags & took up eating - I found out it was Trouser Virus - making the waistbands shrink & the only remedy was to purchase new trousers that was Virus free.

Phill, doing well mate.

It does seem there are only 4 of you involved
Bob & Phill with fags
Marty & Chris T with food

who else is in the "give up the bad things" programme :?:

Right-ho, no cream cake for me, I'll treat myself to a couple of hours modelling instead, that's a fair reward at the moment.

I'm giving myself a bit of a detox too, no coffee or tea while I'm in the office, just water. One cup of Earl Grey tea in the morning and a herbal tea before bed.
I used to drink a couple of cups of tea in the office and one or two coffees in the afternoon to prevent the "nods" in front of the monitor.
I was starting to get tummy pains, thus the detox. Feeling better already.

Sol, where do you get virus free trousers or can I just run a virus checker over the pairs that I have.

Just don't get yourself into trouble abusing your passengers Phil... or is it just the depth that varies

Sounds to me that you are making great strides forward, have you got your mind on what you can buy for the layout with the savings?

Phil, as one that originally tried five times to give up without getting past four weeks or so, take it from me:-
The first cigarette you smoke is the end :!:
Without question, if you smoke none for a fortnight, it gets a little easier, but smoke just one and the game's up.
I know people who have stopped by reducing each week (20 - 15 - 10 - 5 a day and then none) but I know of no one who has gone nicotine free for a few weeks, had one and then got back on the wagon.
Why :?: Probably because that "rush" from the first one gets all those receptors going again and there's no stopping them.

So no cigarette treats (I'll have one 'cos I've been so good) have something else instead.

I found that the first 10 days were the worst, but after that the frequency of the cravings became much less. After 20 days they had almost disappeared.

That means that you are one third through the first period :!: :!: :!:

Yesterday wasn't too bad with everything going on but today has been terrible. I don't seem to be able to think of anything else. Phill you are really getting down to it and I think you have far more will power than you previously gave yourself credit for.
I'm off now to delete a non posting member, that might make me feel better.

I'm in with Bob and Phill but I'm trying not to talk about it !!

There is a huge fillip from here reading helpful comments from the ex smokers without them being too "high and mighty". To me, there's nothing worse than an "ex" telling me what a filthy habit it is !!! I suspect those who've never smoked, don't know what it's really like and just think we're stupid anyway !!

I don't do too badly at all during the days - I keep busy but, in the evenings, it's a real problem. That's my achilles heel - 6pm - a glass of wine (or something stronger) relaxing after a hard day before our meal discussing the day and tomorrow. A fag would just round it off well !!!!

Everything stil under control (just) but it's tough at times. !!

Petermac

That was my weak spot too, Petermac. I got around it by changing the time and the drink. It became 6.30 G&Ts - and after a couple of those it was time to eat and the evening simply past quicker :!:

Afraid not Tim. My June Model Railroader came this afternoon and I haven't even bothered taking it out of it's plastic bag, not interested. I can see the same old story happening here if I'm not careful. I start making up reasons why I shouldn't stop smoking and the more I think about them the more convincing they become. I have been through this before so I know the stages.
