Ok day 6 and we are still in the running. Work today so plenty to keep me busy.
I must say food is starting to taste better, they say it do.
Good luck to the rest of you.

It's funny you know..

Here I am reading the thread's thinking that I really should quit, whilst sub-consciously I'm puffing away..(having one of my random layout planning sessions!! (It's on a piece of A4 paper) )!! Naughty naughty!

The fags aren't doing much good with this rather nasty cough I have at the moment, but I usually find smoking helps clear it for a few hours.. :? :?

Still, I'm certainly cutting down a tad which is good. Keep it up Gent's!

Sam, that was my problem years ago thinking that it helped with the old grey cells or helping to relax.
Trouble was that I put it down to do something, come back to it & it had burnt away & I only had a couple of puffs.

Yes, cutting it out had a good side - well many good sides.
No smoking smells in clothes, etc.
Food tastes better
Money saved.

Now food is another story, I too like my sweet food but have to keep that in check for blood sugar & chlorestorol concerns.

For those on the reducing smoking & sweet food programme., keep at it.

you know reading through these posts makes you realise just
how stupid smoking really is,and the variety of excuses to do so
is just pathetic,very educational.
so keep at it guys it can only be a win win situation.
      8)

Keep at it guys! I am still in there with you - sorry not to have been posting to add support, it has been a busy weekend. First we had to get ready for Hayle Exhibition, then do the exhibition and with two staff away as well. I am still on the fruit, even though I forgot to bring it with me on Friday and when I went to get my lunch those witches in the cafe tried to talk me into them, but I had a pasty instead!

I did get a few pictures which I will upload once I get back to Cornwall as this mobile connection is way too slow.

Currently sat in my Travelodge room in Newport Magor and I am off to Blaenavon tomorrow to scan the Thumper unit with Dapol. Just hope the weather improves as at times on the journey up the rain was so heavy you could only see a few yards ahead. Of course there were still people with no lights doing about 80ish and soon there was a crash and so it has taken hours to get here having left at 9am. 10.60 just to get over the Severn Bridge and 85 in diesel - no wonder I do not venture out of Cornwall very often...

Not quite such a bad day today, not good though. I'm hoping for better things tomorrow.

Had a quick glance through it Tim but nothing took my attention in particular. It's my last issue by the way. With the strength of the Euro against the pound things are getting a bit tight and magazine subscriptions are the first thing to go.

I know the feeling :? I would much like to subscribe to some UK railway magazines, but the dollar/pound exchange is similarly painful.

I've done it again!! :x :x Reading the thread, puffing away..

Still, this apple and rhubarb crumbles going down a treat. :D :D I find that eating kind of delays the need for a fag, yet that means I'll put weight on.. :? :?

Sam is taking on everyone else problems with what seems enjoyment :!:

And as Tim politely mentions - get back to the layout.

I reckon if Sam started writing a "micro layouts" ideas book with a view to publishing it would;
a) keep his hands and mind busy and help with giving up smoking
b) provide him with a source of income
c) encourage him to finish one of them.

Honestly Sam, you have plenty of wonderful micro ideas, your photography of both models and prototype is superb and your writing style is fine too.

Why not knock up a small sample as a teaser and email/mail it off to the model railway press publishers, you never know your luck.

We could all proof check and give suggestions?

Oh... and by the way, I'm still on the wagon, no cake, biscuits, black tea or coffee since we started, although T (the kitchen goddess) was tempting me with stewed rhubarb, brioche and vanilla bean ice cream on Sunday night I just had the rhubarb and brioche. Probably shouldn't have had the brioche...

Just interested in whether or not there is a general consensus of how long you guys feel is necessary without smokes to be able to conclude that you have quit smoking. Is the end of June as per thread just an arbitary date?

Les

Bob if you discontinue the MR subscription, you'll surely miss all the subscriber only info online. I don't subscribe, and I miss it.

Thats not a bad idea that Marty.

Mentioning mailing them to a publisher reminded me of something that my friend is planning. He's editing and producing an internet magazine for the East Anglian region, so we've been throwing ideas into the pot and one of my suggestions was to have a mdoelling section that will be my responsibility. It will include stuff like reviews, layouts, exhibition reviews and layout ideas. (Something I specialise in!!  )

When things get rolling, I'll let you all know on it's progress.

There's sense in what Marty says, Sam.
One of the biggest things new modellers find difficulty with is imagination, especially for layout ideas.

You have become our "layout ideas man" and even withiut completing all the schemes you think up, you are fullfilling a valuable function on the forum.

You'll have to finish at least one, of course, but keep the ideas coming (including any slightly larger ones you get) :!:
