Hello :-)I was poking around online looking for inspiration on backscenes and I stumbled across this forum which looked a bit more inviting than most, so i email Alan and here I am... Greetings from the bottom left hand corner of Canada ! British Rail in the period mid-'80s - mid-90s is my period of interest as that is the period i sent watching trains go by, OO gauge is the medium and living over here in Canada I have a big enough room in the basement to make something happen. At least, this is the first layout since i was a teenager that has got beyond the stage of just being track on plywood - I actually have a hill now, even if 3/4 of it is still plywood.... slowly, it is getting there. Anyway, hi everyone :-) |

Slip of the keyboard.... it is Dylan - and thank you for the nice replies :-)Though "Mr. Shard" does have a certain ring to it.... According to some mythos, "Lightningshard" was the name of the sword that was later known as Excalibur when carried by its previous owner. Unfortunately I don't have the whole basement in this house, but a 23' x 10' layout on two levels is quite enough to take on as a project ! If anyone is interested, you can get an idea of where it is at here; - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JzPHXoAo_Q -dylan |

Greetings Dylan and a hearty welcome to our little corner of the interweb where we maintain a friendly place for like minded modellers to enhance our enjoyment of this diverse hobby. I enjoyed your video and your no-nonsense approach of just getting on and overcoming challenges. I tend to use the razor saw, while I smiled at your default to the big hammer, which I reserve for old cars and buildings! We have an active member not too far from you in Vancouver and when I looked to see where you are, was surprised and delighted to see that you are within spitting distance of San Juan Island, where we spent a couple of days on an idyllic holiday a few years back, island hopping from Seattle to Vancouver. The islands were so mesmerising, that we never actually made it to Vancouver, as we had to get to Maine to meet up with old friends. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the forum, which is a great place to share model railway experiences and learn from one another. Greetings Mr Shard That may be a small space compared to some members' rooms, but looks like a ballroom compared to mine. Definitely enough space to be getting for your first layout done, and you seem to have cracked most of the hard work of baseboards and track and power, so now the fun stuff! Anyway, welcome to the club. Michael ____________________ Michael Faversham Creek "There is no harm in repeating a good thing." Plato |

Hi Dylan Not too active recently I am afraid! A belated welcome from North Vancouver ![]() I, too, enjoyed your video. Our train rooms are almost identical in size but there the similarities end . I model 1947-8 GWR steam in a setting of Satanic Mills with barely a blade of grass in sight ![]() I hope you enjoy your time on the forum...........I find that, like most organisations, the more you put in the more you get out. I would encourage you to start a layout thread.....despite my ignorance of diesels I will follow such a thread with interest.
