Once, when Marty was a little boy just starting Newcastle Emlyn, he invented and recommended 'Gloop', a thick unctious brown coating for covering groundwork. Impressed with the results I followed suit until one fateful day I managed to get a generous amount on my brown cardigan sleeve. (I was however wearing my 'manly' striped apron) I did not notice, but SWMBO did after I had sat and fidgeted in my armchair for half-an-hour. Did I mention that we then a had a pale yellow brocade covered suite? No? That the chair arm in question was next to the hot wood burning stove? No? Nearly fifteen years ago, and I'm stil not forgiven......... I have several very good quality 'Gardening Shirts'. They started out as best shirts, until the cuffs became spolied by gloop, paint, etc and on one recent occasion, flourescent orange paint , thus...  Redundant shirt sleeves fitted with some elastic. An additional benefit is that the cuffs, fasted, stop saggy pullover sleeves catching in telegraph poles, signals etc... Win win, now all you have to do is convince your Domestic Manager to make some for you. Dear Marty and Chastened, These reminded me of something Micawber may have worm at the Heep establishment and I found an example of one of his cast-offs on t’internet at the Dicken’s museum:  You’ll probably never find the photo, but if you do, it’s included here only for illustrative and information purposes. 19th Century Victorian leeve protectors. Besides the rumour of modern versions being available in South Devon, by sending SLW tokens and an old shirt, alternatives are on display at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Kleenguard-Sleeve-Protectors-44480-Protection/dp/B004S16MRC I’m going to need some of those soon Doug, as the Gloop is beckoning, but living in the sunny Loire, I’ve only got old tee shirts!
