Hi All.     I am a silly billy I cannot remember the passwords to my iPad or iPhone. Every time I try to use them I get interrupted, at least three times before I can carry on with my call or message. And it is a real PITA. Is there a way that I can start again ? I went along to the “ Genius Bar “ at Apple, a waste of time that was, I was asked for a proof of purchase before they would consider helping me, practically accusing me of stealing it.  Best wishes Kevin

Why try to remember them?, write them down & leave it in your wallet.

Hi Ron. Thank you for your reply. I already did that, in a notebook, but I kept changing them . At first I used the same combination, but I cannot remember which one I settled with.  Best wishes Kevin

I've recently been through this when I inherited my Mother in Law's iPad - without proof of purchase.

They aren't accusing you of stealing it, Kevin.  Apple just have very fastidious security procedures.

If you have your proof of purchase, Apple help desk will remotely reset your password for you.

If you haven't kept your receipt, you are up the proverbial creek - sans paddle.

Cheers

I think I've asked before Kevin, but just in case I didn't, where did you buy it ?  IF Someone like John Lewis and in the last few years, they probably have your purchase on record and may be able to supply a copy of proof of purchase ? A call to their customer service might help. If from Apple then the same thing, they will have your purchase on record and  MIGHT  be able to help.

As I've mentioned before write down any password combinations you THINK you may have used, then try logging in to facetime on your tablet, using each one and cross off if it doesn't work.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt.  Thank you for your reply. I purchased the Apple iPad from the Apple store in Regent Street, in 2016 but, they claim that they didn’t have, or want to find, a record of my purchase. An old school mate has suggested that they send an email?  I will have to keep trying the possible combinations of passwords, although if I hadn’t changed my mobile phone in the meantime? They could have arranged the password .  Best wishes Kevin

Hi Evan.  Thank you for your reply. But, me back up? that is foreign territory to me I am sorry to say. When I get a similar message, I usually press “ Not now?”, and that hasn’t got me anywhere. Considering the support that I didn’t get from Apple at the Genius Bar at either Covent Garden or Regent Street, I don’t know which way to turn. Best wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The little black book.

Although quite frankly why bother. My cell phone has necessary contacts, nothing else, same with the Kindle.

Hi Nigel.  My mobile is just about the same. But, with a difference, I cannot get into the “ little black book “ without going through the rigmarole of entering the password or skip this.   Kevin

My latest iPhone has finger recognition it's a one hand operation it does make life easy if you have one hand full of something and all the regular used apps are on the opening page. ;-)

Well the finger recognition is all well and good if your are for example an office worker but if you are a more practical worker and work outside the function becomes practically useless as it does not require a great deal mess on a finger for it not to work many times when i try to use it on my phone it fails to work and i purely have to enter the password.
The tech is good and usefull for many people but for some its not really practical.

Brian

Hi Bob.  To open my phone I have a four digit number, that one I know, but whilst I am dialling it asks for another password. I can substitute the four digit code with a finger print. But that is it.  Best wishes Kevin

Kevin,if you can open your phone, then it's open and ready to use.The additional password must be for some app or other function.

If it's an iPhone Alan, it frequently requires you to additionally enter your iTune password, otherwise it locks you out!

This happens frequently with my iPod and is Apple's marketing Dept being it's intrusive self!

This wonderful modern world we live in eh?

Bill

Hi Alan.  Thank you for your reply. You and everyone may of realised by now that modern technology isn’t my thing. The helpful? staff at Regent Street either cannot or don’t want to help me. Best wishes Kevin
