Hello,
I am Jonathan Dorey and as requested am introducing myself for the YMRC.
I am in early retirement, and have a large shed which is slowly being changed into a model. It is in 00 and about 27ft by 15ft. It is the usual 1960s era Hornby etc, and is growing very slowly!

The layout is DCC and uses Digitrax kit in the main, with Railroad and Co Train controller software which I hope will run most of the trains for me.  I have been in the model railway hobby for most of my life, and am firmly of the belief that it is one of life's great pleasures that keeps a sane human being going....or maybe, a not so sane human being going! I have experience in P/S4, EM, 00, 009, but this layout is in 00 for speed of construction.
My day time job was a Chartered Surveyor.

I have found that for me DCC is quite difficult, particularly regarding some Digitrax and Train Controller logic, and translations!, but great when it works.

I will post what I can when I can get the photos sorted out. I hope that I will be able to write down some of the things that I have sorted out, and it is good to see the posts that some folks have already set out for members here, and I am sure will be asking for advice from the many talented people already on the forum.

All the best
Jonathan

As one retired Chartered Surveyor to another, welcome Jonathan, you've landed in a friendly place with an abundance of knowledge and willingness to help.

We're looking forward to see how you'll fill that glorious space.

Bon courage,

Bill

And a welcome from a not so sunny Kent, Jonathan.  Years of modelling experience very welcome here - looking forward to you sharing some of it with us!

Welcome aboard Jonathan from an overcast and mild day in a normally hot and sunny Western Australia.
Good space you have there for a model.

Looking forward to the story.

Welcome Jonathon.

As one who is planning for a space about the sort of size you have I will be very interested in your experiences - there are folk about these parts who (quite rightly) believe that building a layout to occupy such a large space is one step removed from madness!!

Just a quick note to say thanks again to the new posts.I am grateful for your interest, and will post something as soon as I can get it organised. (New grandchild/ family taking time!).
Having a big space has brought its pitfalls, so maybe I should explain how things have gone , good and bad!
Its good to have another Chartered Surveyor on the board, and I have seen your posts John Dew ref Train Controller, and I am in awe!....so it will be good to correspond...
Thanks again... will post asap
Also thanks to everyone else who has taken the trouble to say hello.

Jonathan

A very warm welcome for France Jonathan.

I know John (Dew) will be pleased to have another RR&Co user on board, as indeed will I - I've been "hovering" for some time now and it may well be that my new layout becomes the catalyst..................

Naturally, running on DCC,  you'll be taking advantage of the wonderful sound decoders available..................... (sorry Jonathan, that comment is for the benefit - or otherwise - of John Dew .............. )

Really looking forward to seeing your layout.
