I have started trying out the position of the track for the first part of Shelby Wood Sidings
.
The plan is for a lay out 11' by 5' plus fiddle yards that come off both ends to give a double L shape. I have come up with a board system for the main lay out that is very different to the norm but will allow us to have a larger lay out than we first thought and also to be able to change part of the scenery for different track work or to show different time periods.

We also fitted a DCC decoder to my friends Dapol 08 and gave her a run :)

Having decided on a track plan for the sidings, on, Friday, and wanting to get on with things today, I was up a 4am today.

I wanted to crack on with some figures and also to tackle the mind numbing boring, but not as boring as ballasting, job of weathering my sidings.

Just finished for the day so relaxing with a hot cup of Cappuccino and a couple of biscuits.  :)

My three Peco plastic buffer stops are now built, painted, weathered and rusted. Not the most exciting part of a lay out but necessary all the same.

Early morning at the sidings and there is just enough time for a quick chat about the football results before the days work begins......

Coming along nicely :thumbs

Them two look more likely to be discussing the weekends pigeon racing than the football  :mutley

At first you think O scale on a plank is too big, but is that stack of polystyrene going to be a cutting or cliff face ? That will bring it right back into perspective.  Nice job, looking foward to seeing more  :)

Cheers

So two HUGE boxes of add water to mix Polyfiller used and only half of my hill done!
There is a big difference between OO and O gauge scenery!

Thank you Matt and Danileb.

It is going to be a cutting but high enough to make the tunnel entrance look 'right' ;)

The guy operating the point lever will be facing in the correct direction once track is down and I fix him in place.

Its funny you should say that, I had just finished and a flippen fly landed in it!!!!! I had to remove the fly and dribble a little filler in then smooth with a paint brush!!!

It is drying OK though :)

Aint that just sod's law in action, right there?

With me, it's usually dog fluff rather than a fly. :P

Track ballast all down and weathered it has taken me over a week to do.

It has all been too much for Oscar :D

Today I have made some Sea Moss trees and placed them ready to be glued onto the lay out once ground is laid.
My friend paid a visit to the SVR on Sunday and watched a tender being accidently over filled which gave me the idea of a small flood by my water crane :)

Sue and I are spending the day on the SVR so I put in extra time on the lay out yesterday. I have added a stand pipe to the PY Hutt to make it easier for the track crew to make a cuppa.

Latest edition to Shelby Wood Sidings (OK she only visits to get a drink of water). I bought her at Telford on Sunday. DCC sound now added but she is still to be numbered and weathered........
