Hi All,

The turnout (switch or points) below by Micro Engineering here in the US may be of interest to some members. This is a live frog design, DC or DCC compatible straight of the box. It's an On30 turnout in code 83, all the others in the M-E range are the same design (N, HO, code 50,through code 100).

The frog is a dark grey alloy casting, 1.25" long, with isolating gaps in the rails at either end of the frog. There is a hole in the frog underneath for a wire should a switchable frog be required, although with a length of 1.25" most 0-4-0 locomotives or B-B bogies (trucks) should go through without problems. Insulating track joiners are not recommended (or needed) on the frog exit rails, add jumpers if required or just use conductive joiners.. The closure rails have jumpers to the stock rails, and the point blades have conducting rail joiners to the closure rails. The tie rod (or bar) is sprung, and is nicely narrow. .

M-E warn that out of gauge wheels could cause a short at the frog ends, they even provide a plastic gauge tool to measure the width of the wheels. Plus some bolt head strips to glue to the outsides of the frog. All this for $21.75. I bought 3 this afternoon at the local train show ("local" in this case was a 100 mile return trip) for the "Back of the Mill" layout. Plus some code 83 rail to make that stub turnout.
