Hornby  Barabel, disectected. Got her the other day and she spent about 4 hours on the rollers at varying speeds and direction. Ran nice and quiet and responsive. However, she needs a DCC chip fitted before she goes to work on my OO twig. I selected a Digitrax DZ126 as it fits under the dashboard with room to spare. . Unlike my earlier one, I removed the motor so as to take out the cap. By doing it this way, all the Hornby wiring can be removed. The black wire to the L/H pickup is tight for getting the iron in,but,with care, it can be done. I'm using a 25 watt Antex with a small bit.Another thing I found was that the motor wires had huge lumps of solder holding them on and the metal front motor mount is very close to the brushes,with a risk of shorting. In order to give me more clearance I'm going to slim the mount down  later. DCC chips don't like shorts.  One tip that may be useful when undoing and replacing the tiny screws is to either stroke the screwdriver on the side of the motor can or put a small rare earth magnet on the end of the screwdriver. Either method means that Isaac Newton's law doesn't work. And we all know that small screws like the floor don't we.

Glad to hear it runs well in DC mode.

Why did you want too remove the Hornby wiring? Wrong colours. Too chunky.

Purely out of curiosity, my N Gauge stuff is all DC.

Recommended that suppressors are removed for DCC. As it's under the motor it made sense to me to rmove the lot and rewire. Advantage being no extra joins and no heatshrink taking up space. And a lot less wire!
