Following a comment by Pete (Jakesdad13) in Tom's Rosebuddy thread regarding a social meet i was wondering how members feel about a YMRC club meet at Warley. It's on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of November. It would give a great many of us a chance to put faces to names.Anyone interested?.

If the lottery pays out ........

..... otherwise I'll leave it to the "home crowd" to enjoy and sincerely hope that you do. It's big, it's busy but it's a focal point for the hobby and a very good way to get together for those who might otherwise never do so.

My experiences at Warley haven't always been very wonderful. The argy-bargy, swinging backpacks and bad manners have become something of a legend. The absence of personal hygiene likewise.

It's a great "do" and a credit to our hobby but there are always a few (and it is a few) antisocial oiks who seem to think they have some right to be first / at the front / unwashed and who think nothing of brutally pushing some others around. I stress they are a minority though I've had a couple of unpleasant moments.

I personally may be up for that too as there is no boys holiday this year in September. ........... I'm taking SWMBO instead. She has mentioned the absence of a boys holiday with some sympathetic undertones so I think I could swing it. It would certainly be cheaper...... well maybe....... depending on the shinies.

Drive down...... book a hotel for the night on the Friday night for early rise on the Saturday ........ Go to show on the Saturday, stay at hotel until Sunday am and then back up the road. Could be a goer.
I'll have a think about that if that's ok.

cheers

The reason i suggested Warley is that it covers all scales whereas when i went to TINGS it only covers N gauge plus it's roughly in the middle of the country.

Hi Matt,

Flights, albeit based on October as fly be flights for November are not out yet, as an indicator, flying down the Friday late afternoon and returning Sunday midday work out at £74.00 return per person.

It's the only one I've tried and could probably be bettered but it's an indication.

Dunno what a hotel would cost for the Friday and Saturday night. Either that or down the Friday night and back on the Saturday night later on...... Or take the car. I'm easy but if I drive then it would be back up the Sunday morning I think.

Whatever

Cheers

Darius,

A bit far but if I do get there, I'll make sure there are plenty photo's to post as I'm sure the others will as well.

I'm sure there will be some shows in your area. You could be our Canadian reporter ;-)

West Midlands Kevin, at the NEC.Directions?,just get a route planner up on your computer, the AA for example and plot your route.Google the postcode for the NEC.I can't see a webpage for the show yet but that will probably have all the information on it as well when it appears.

Alan Please Sir, I forgot to ask which is the best day for attending?? either could be okay, but that depends on the Church goers and the crowds as to which day is better.

I think Tom and myself ( not spoken to Paul yet ) are thinking to drive down Friday evening , stop in a  travel lodge or similar near the venue, do a full day Saturday stop again Saturday night and travel back up Sunday , mid morning. So Saturday meet up would be good for us.

Cheers

Although i used to live not far from the NEC i don't know about accommodation nearby,it will probably be expensive.Might be worth looking at Warwick or Leamington Spa and travelling in,it's only a few miles.

Sounds like a great idea, but, I did Warley last year and suffered for a week due to back problems. So I'd have to give it a miss I'm afraid.

It would be nice to meet up, but I don't like Warley. The year I went it was horribly overcrowded. The organisers had roped off about a third of the width for the whole lenghth of the hall.
Had they used that area it would have been comfortable, as it was, too many pinch points and struggling crowds.
Shame.
I did hear it is cheaper to park at the railway and get the moving footway through to the hall.
Depends if you intend buying lots of heavy stuff

I've never been Mike and the only reason i suggested it is because it covers all gauges and a forum meet would be nice, whereas you and i model N.Try and make it if you can it would be nice to meet you again.

Getting a bit closer, thought a revival of this thread may be good to see who is still interested.
There is a Scottish contingent interested which may grow a bit yet.

If anyone knows the area well enough, suggestions as to a suitable hotel would be appreciated. My posse will be coming down by car on the Friday ( later on ) and staying over to the Sunday to allow for a wee social swaree after the show.

Cheers

Two excellent places to stay  near the NEC both in Shustoke only 10 minutes drive away. The Old Vicarage Shustoke - 01675 481331 (Rosie Hawkins) jbhawk@doctors.org.uk and Priory Famhouse Shustoke - 01675 481550 prioryfarmhouse.co.uk/ (Margaret Manley).
There is a very good food pub in the village - The Plough - and one of the best Rel Ale pubs - The Griffin (8 on tap!!)
I have stayed at both on many occasions and enjoyed many a flagon at both of the pubs -  the Griffin in partiucular.

Think it's a great idea so just suggested to my other 5/8ths that she might like to come over from Nerja to do a family pressent swap and Christmas shopping trip around the end of November, what a coincidence (says he glancing over his shoulder). Can't go firm yet but fingers crossed, can I bring my signal box goat?

What about YMRC " T shirts "

The YMRC web address on the front and user name on the back.

Just an idea.

I can now say without fear of contradiction (future significant lottery wins excepted) that I cannot make it to Warley!

I trust all those who do go will enjoy the event and each other's company also that the lesser-cleansed backpacker is conspicuous by his absence. Always a male, I believe.

Nice Idea with the T shirts Tom. Not sure if the cost would be prohibitive with individual names on the back, but you never know these days. Not sure which would be better, as you described or the Ymr logo on the back , so you can put your own name ,if not too dear on the front or pin a name badge on if individual T shirts were too dear.  If a decent supplier was found ,willing to have the logo on file and do individual orders, then the details could be put in a thread and each of us place an order and pay for the size and quantity we want. Do you feel a T shirt design competition coming on ?:hmm

The T shirt idea is a good one but would there be enough to form a cost effective order. If not the alternative could be name badges.

Just did a quick google and there are lots of online T shirt printing firms http://www.tshirtstudio.com does design your own @between £12 and £20 odd for a half decent T shirt ( usual disclaimer never used em so can only go by the online reviews ) so I would imagine if we can get a file with the Ymr site Addy available , it won't be hard at all to get some done. If Alan would rather approve anything printed with the Ymr logo then we would need to pick one company and have an ' approved design ' on file that members could order from ?

P's they also do cheaper ones and I don't know how much postage would be as I didn't go in any further than the front page. Personally I would rather pay as little more and get something that would last ( probably order a couple at least )
Cheers

There's not much to approve really, there's only one logo.To add to Tom's suggestion i think YMRC logo on the front with the web address underneath and names on the back, either real names or usernames.

Either that or we could all wear superman trunks over our troosers.

Nah ......... T Shirts it is.

I think we could all chuck in an idea or two and as said run it past Alan for approval. It could either be adopted as an official T Shirt or if not maybe the design could be a bit more off the wall.

All idea's , comments, whatever.

Alan,

What's your initial thoughts on this as if you are not keen ........... No problem. We could still do T Shirts without promoting YMRC if necessary.

Personally I think it's a good way to promote both the hobby and the Club. Maybe a fresh approach to the design may also promote the fun element and get rid of the old fart in a checked shirt buttoned up to the neck and a pair of hop sacks from readers digest.

Nothing radical just fun whilst retaining some professionalism.

Let the debate begin.:mutley

Cheers

Toto

PS if Alan wanted we could also have the web address leading to the registering page thingy.

I like the new approach Toto,
The hobby is for all, just like our website.
Defo the website url and logo/name.
But maybe quicky train type thing has to be generic as we all do something that is not on pare with each other. Lms, gwr, diesel, steam etc
ATB,

OK posts are crossing lol looks like Alan's up for it as well :doublethumb so might I suggest ?   A formal (ish) front. YMR logo with the web address underneath ..and please yourself on the back ?  Your name..your Ymr nickname.and something else ( train image...snazzy design..etc but nothing rude ) if you wish ?

That way we get a good ' uniform ' front design with individual backs

Cheers

If your doing an individual back design with your name then you could include a line as some members do in thier avatar ..like...OO,DCC ..or N,dc  etc

Hi Max,

Could you provide a photo of the emblem on the front.

Maybe a mascot could be an idea. Again suggestions open to all the membership as it could be adopted officially if everyone was happy.

Whatever...... Oh and layout names could go on . There are guests who must be tuning in semi regular onto our threads who may recognise the layout names......... Just a thought.

Cheers

Somewhere there is a whole thread on the exercise, Tom.

I'll see if I can find it.  Maybe Sol could have a look as well.

The tee shirts were, I think,  bought specifically for the KYMRC exhibition in Cornwall but I think the threads relating to the show have been archived - at least, I can't find them............maybe Alan can have a look as Admin ........:roll:

I can't remember where they were bought but I have a feeling Chris Trerise organised them.  I don't think they were particularly expensive.

Do you still have a "direct line" open to Chris Max ?  If not, I could try through his shop contacts .............:roll::roll:

The shirts as modelled by Max (and I still have both the two I bought for a two-day event) were about £20 apiece back then as I recall but are quite good quality cotton rather than just cheap "T-shirt fabric". Were they not ordered by someone with an aversion to blue diesels?

As another option why not top hats adorned with a miniature railway around the brim featuring GWR pannier tanks? :mutley:mutley:mutley

Now there's a few characters I know well!!

That's my mate Darren Hodges, owner of Hobbies Plus, in the tiny town of Stratford a couple of hours or so from here.

I have seen him wearing the hat layout in the shop.

In the clip you get a glimpse of another of his interests. He owns the cab of former Victorian railways locomotive B67 which sits (rusting, I'm afraid, through lack of time to do much with it) in his back yard behind his premises which are both home and shop.

Darren is well-known for such eccentricities and novelties and is a retailer of miniature gauges among more mainstream items.

I think I cleaned a lot of threads & posts out in an attempt to reduce site size - left the modelling side of the exhibition in though.

Depending on whether we can find and use the old logo then the current one will have to do.I haven't seen the old one so can't comment on it.I have also been wondering about the logistical problem of ordering T shirts from one place when we all live in different areas of the country.I also don't trust my own ability to order online and get a T shirt back that looks right,ie.font size, word placement, that sort of thing.I have been looking at local printers and i'm wondering if this would be a better option for us all. All we would need to do then is agree on design and colour.

What do you all think?.

I'm happy either way Alan , must admit the shirt Max is modeling looks a bit ' old school ' with small logo on breast pocket.. And think the larger blue 'ymr' banner logo would look good across the back of a T shirt with tghe site address underneath ...or was it across the front ?????? Anyway no reason why we can't have two designs 1 classical ( old fuddy fuddy ) design like the one Max is modelling with shirt pocket logo ...and new funky modern one with the blue Ymr logo and address across the front or back or whatever. If you picked one firm though Alan, I'm sure they would be able to to hold a couple of standard designs for us to choose from and then add individual names tto the front or back as per each persons choice ?          Cheers       Matt

Hi Alan,

If we can agree the artwork as you say for the front and also agree any other standard details like any wording under the artwork / logo. IE Is it just YMRC or does your name also go under it or whatever.

The rear again could be up to the wearer but maybe some degree of similarity. If we all pitch in with the idea's and separate the wheat from the chaff and get to an agreed design or set of perameters first.

The logistics. If we can format the artwork online everyone could use the files to pass on to their own suppliers if they wish. Maybe so many members could produce them on a local basis if in a reasonable travelling distance of each other but country wide may need a bit thinking.

I'll wait and see what everyone else wants.

Question. The main logo is this printed or embroidered ?

cheers

Hi Tom,working on the assumption that we use the present logo and it could be resized to fit over the breast area, left or right, left probably it could be embroidered but if it was to go completely across the front then i would imagine printing would be the way to go.You would need a second mortgage to get it embroidered.

I think the "old fuddy duddy" logo was embroidered.

Nowadays, embroidery is not that much more expensive than scren printing but last much longer.

If it were me, I'd go for a single logo (without "personalising") to keep costs down.  That way, someone could place a "bulk" order with one company and distribute them from one source.  Having names etc. printed would mean an additional print run for every tee-shirt - not very cost effective I fear ....................

I'll wait until you've decided before contacting Chris Trerise (if at all) .........................but don't be too long about it !!! :thumbs

The old logo paid homage to Bob's (our Founder), railway - Barchester.

With Your Model Railway underneath.

I put my shirt in the scanner.

You're right.  It's probably too elegant.

:hmm Some valid points, the more individual runs there are...... the higher the cost..... probably by far. Also the embroidery would last better than the screen print.

An option would be to go down the minimalistic route of a decent quality T shirt with an embroidered club emblem and wear badges with username and layout name on it.

Having YMRC and the web address on the back could be standard as well though as one of the purposes is to promote the forum. ( Navy Blue sounds good :mutley)

I'll go with the flow.

cheers

Which company to use though Matt?, i've looked at Vistaprint and a couple of others and i'm confused to say the least.I might just go and visit a couple of local printers and check out prices, quality etc.we need to settle on the design format and colour, remember that the logo is blue.

Just missed your post Max.

It does look good but maybe needs to reflect the body of the club now rather than any one individual ....... but there again Alan owns the name and the club as an entity. ( also no disrespect to Bob intended ).

Maybe a rallying of the troops to come up with a logo and some standard wording underneath which could be as easy as YMRC. or The YMRC 2015 Tour........ YMRC Warley 2015.

The emblem will be the hard bit but get some suggestions in and Alan has the final shout. At the end of the day I can't see anybody having any real objection as to the chosen design as I think we are all thinking down similar routes............. Can I have the Declaration of Arbroath on the back of mine. ....... Aw Aw........... time to duck..........quack.:mutley

I might be wrong but embroidery seems to go on polo shirts whereas printing seems to be more prevalent on the cheaper type T shirts so i suggest the choice is down to the individual.

I like Tom's suggestion of Navy Blue but the logo is blue so will it clash,i know the logo is a lighter blue.

I think a poll is required.

I bunged the navy blue bit in before realising that we were going with the logo. As long as its not white, unless we make beer stains part of the design to hide the inevitable real ones. Maybe chuck in a curry design as well. :mutley

The  logo on the front page is a light blue surround with a metallic brushed silver/ chrome infill , think that would look quite eye catching on either navy blue or on a mid grey T shirt . Think your right Alan the embroidered Polo shirt would cost more but probably last well. I would be happy to own , and proud to wear one like that ( Max thanks for the close up, It looks great and is a nice compliment to the work Robert put in to creating and growing the club )   But I think When Tom suggested a T Shirt he was thinking along the lines of promoting the club so the bigger banner / logo with the site address underneath would do this better ? And if we wanted we could go with the idea of putting Warley 2015 or some such on them and this could be adapted, changed for future outings as well. But we could explore both options ? I would like a couple of T shirts for Warley , but would also be interested in an embroidered Polo shirt like Max's if its possible to get one ?  Also Alan , as for firms, So much is done online these days I'm not sure if local printing firms even try to compete anymore. The one I posted earlier was 1 of 3 picked from a Google search and had the most , and best reviews. Unless someone has used a firm and can recommend it that's pretty much the only way to choose these days          Cheers.    Matt

Hi Alan,

This goes for me too, like this for the show.
Maybe,
We could look into the Polo shirts for sale as something later, with an embroidery logo over the breast either left or right as I would be proud to wear that when I go to my local show.

That's great to know Peter. At the moment, certainly as far as i'm concerned anyway, the idea seems to be for T Shirts for recognition at Warley.I'm going to look into embroidered polo shirts later today.

I would certainly want one and I'm sure other members abroad wouldn't mind one either. I guess you would need to do a head count first to find the quantity required, prior to pricing them individually. Maybe start another thread on the 'expression of interest of the YMRC T-shirt', then take orders once a price has been fixed.

I do realise that those of us that are abroad would have to pay for frieght/postage, but hey, we do with our models anyway! ;-)

Cheers, Gary.

I would pay what ever the price is. Afterall, you would have to pay the VAT upfront for the manufacturing of the shirts, regardless of where they end up.

I've just come off the phone to a local printer who can do a T Shirt with the logo and web address on the front for £11.00.I'm going over there later today and will get more information on prices for the embroidered polo shirts.I might even get the T Shirt today. They also do mail order.

Just a sudden thought what about names ? If logo and web address are across the chest...no room to pin a badge ? Alan any chance of checking how much extra to put a name on the back ?. I know this would probably be extra but we could give you our orders with size and name to go on the back...or if you have set it up we could place our orders direct ?   Oh and are we putting Warley 2015 on the back ? Or keeping it seemples ?...Might be worth asking any members who aren't going if tthey want a T shirt as well...with or without Warley on it

Sorry for lobbing spanners but only just saw you might be visiting the printers

Cheers

Just got in from the printers and from taking SWMBO for lunch,Got to accrue the brownie points. The final price for the T Shirt was £16.00 but the logo is apparently multi colour so costs a bit more and my T Shirt was £2.00 dearer due to size.I've no idea why as i'm such a slim chap. The web address is in a silver/grey colour to match the logo text underneath.Nothing else on it so we'll use this one as an exercise.

The web address if anyone wants to have a look is  http://www.bayfashions.co.uk/ and the logo file is now on their system.

Other sizes will be cheaper if you haven't been eating as much as me.

As mentioned earlier i did this as an exercise to get things moving,if anyone wants to order locally to themselves please feel free and i can send you the logo file which is a gif. file.

PS. I forgot to ask about the polo shirts but i'm picking up the T Shirt tomorrow and i'll ask then.
There is a £15.00 setup fee for embroidering using your own design but i will pay that and then members can order what they want if indeed we use them.

Hi Alan,

You have struck while your iron's hot.

Well done :pathead

I would like a copy of the logo if possible just to check things around here, if that's possible.
Otherwise, dare I ask what size you had to have if you have had to pay £2 extra :cool wink

Thanks for your hard work,

Ian

Alan does the gif file include the logo and web address as it will appear on the T shirt ?  And does our gallery accept Gif files ?  the photos appear to be jpeg, but if it will accept Giff you can just put it in your Gallery and we can download it from there
Just open the image then right click on it and save image as.  You can do the same on the Logo on the main page to get a copy of it as well but that wont have the web address so you would have to add that afterwards

cheers

You can always sell em down the market from the back of your Capri.:mutley

I'll look forward to seeing the finished article when you get it. I'm up for at least a couple.

If the embroidered polo shirts get off the ground I'll be interested as well. If your supplier keeps a copy of the motif, I'll contact him and do a deal to have my username and " The R & GLR " added either under the motif or on the other side ie right hand side.

Looks like he could make a few quid out of this little venture.

Cheers

They do do discounts for bulk orders but that would be one large order,a one off.If people want to order from here great,if not they can do it locally now the file works.Perhaps give it a week or two and we can work out a design for the polo shirt.I think that needs to be quite uniform.

Agree with that Alan, the T shirts while having the same logo and web address can be 'individualized by each of us but it would be nice to have a uniform design on the Polo shirt. I would definitely be interested in  1 or 2 polo shirts once the design / color etc is finalized

I don't think different colours will be a problem just the design. Most polo shirts seem to have a logo on the left breast area. The logo can be formed into a circular design if necessary.

I have checked that 'www' thing as well, cause I was confussed there (easily done) and the forum is no www!
So I guess it does not matter Alan, looking forward to seeing your T shirt.

Hi chaps

I wasn't that involved with web access more local networks, but my understanding is (if I've got this right), WWW used to be used to tell the browser software to look for the address out on the world wide web as opposed to any local intranet, but browsers are a bit more intelligent now so you don't need it.

Putting http in the addresss bar tells the browser you want to use hyper text transfer protocol, so by default it will look out on the web.

The address therefore is  http://yourmodelrailway.net/

Someone with more web development experience could probably explain it a lot better, but hope that helps.

Ok,the T Shirt is good quality "Fruit of the Loom". The colours of the forum logo have come out very well against the Navy Blue.I thought that the logo could have been a bit bigger but it's because of the size of the image and it wouldn't have looked right if the printer had tried to enlarge it.The web address should have been in lower case but that's my fault. There are loads of fonts and sizes to choose from but at least it gets the message accross.

Polo shirts, after the setup fee which i will pay, will be about £15.00 approx. The logo can be formed into a circle  with possibly a train in the centre. The train image if embroidered will lose some clarity but it can be printed so the two can be mixed.

I think its fine. Not too jazzy and confusing with to much artwork. Plain and effective.

I'm up for a couple of them. Just let me know how to order and if its direct, is there a reference number for the design ?

cheers, great job done.

Hi Tom,there is no reference number. They have put the file on their desktop "lmr logo".You can order online on the link i provided or ring them.I prefer this as you can talk to a person and hopefully get it right first time.Plus you can personalise it as you wish.

Hi Alan,

I just ordered 3 in XL. They only had 2 XL left in navy so took one in Royal Blue as well.

They ended up £20.00 each and £7.00 postage to Edinburgh.

T shirt £ 5.00 and print £ 15.00 because I had additional print added to the rear.

it reads             The Rosebuddy

                                   &

                       Gypsy Lane Railway

                      Toto

or something like that. We'll see how they turn out........ So guys ........fill yer boots.

cheers

I Know that Matt & myself are heading down on the Friday afternoon ( ish ) having a beer or five and then spending all day at the show on Saturday. Staying Saturday night have another few beers then head back up the road on Sunday as soon a its safe to drive.

I know that there will be some if not most that will come direct on the Saturday but it would be great if anyone could either make the Friday night or Saturday night for a beer. However I know that can be difficult at times as it all adds to the cost of the weekend and ........ we all have SWMBO to try and strike a balance with so what will be will be.

It'll be a great day regardless.

cheers

Speaking to Tom earlier I've suggested that as we are down on the Saturday night and making a late start back on the Sunday morning / lunch time , that we book the 2 day ticket so we can go back to Warley for a second visit Sunday morning . This would give us a chance to catch up with any members who are going on the Sunday, before we head home

Cheers

Hi,

Just to confirm the details I posted for the hotel are correct.

The room will be different for single occupancy but I think Matt will be in the ball park with 65 - 70 quid.

Well done on the shirts they look great :pathead

Toto & co-driver I will be up for a Saturday meet after the show, we can sort that out closer to the date.
Good idea getting your hotel booking sorted cause it will be hard later when others start booking.

I am going on the Saturday so we need to collect names for each day and where about to meet.

I am getting excited already, bring it on :Happy

I'm sure someday most of our paths will cross ......... its our destiny:mutley until then, I'm sure there will be an abundance of photographs of the motley crew and the show itself. Its maybe something that can be done on an annual basis changing venues now and again. I'm sure there would be enough big shows sprinkled around the country that could host the annual bash. York would be good and I believe there is a big London event.

Some smaller shows set in some picturesque village somewhere with some good pub accommodation.

Got car ........ will travel.

cheers

I was on the e- Hattons website having a look at some of the forthcoming releases. Ohhhhhh boy. It would be great if some of these new shinnies were released at Warley and the time frames do coincide. My wish list consists of and in no particular order.

Dapol

Class 29 in blue
Class 29 in green
Class 101 bubble car blue
Class 101 bubble car green

Bachmann

Class 25 two tone green

Class 37's ( for a future modern image plank layout )

Colas livery
DRS livery
Mainline livery
EWS livery

So ...... There is the wish list. I wonder if even one of these reaches the shelves for the show never mind them all.

What's on your wish list ?????

Cheers

I'll not get the lot . Unlikely they would all be released in time but ideally some will. There is nothing else that I really want. At a push if none of these are out it will maybe be one or two other modern image loco's.

I used to hate the look of class 66's but They are growing on me so at a push maybe one or two in the same modern liveries but not many. When I get round to the plank, it will probably be a modern image TMD. So the class 37's and the class 66's would not be estranged in the same stable.

Probably some more grass scatter, maybe some trees, ballast etc.

The emphasis is on wish list, it depends on how well I can build up the war chest. SWMBO would be disappointed if I went all that way and come back minus some shinnies. She'd go into shock :mutley however, it will cost me an expensive visit to the bling shop later in the year that's for sure.

Cheers

Well,

I had stuck away some dosh for Warley this month but it looks like its back to the start again. I picked up a Class 66 ( EWS ) with sound from the Model rail magazine promotions and on stumbling on the DRS site ( as posted ) I picked up another two 66's. one on DRS and the other in Malcolm logistics.

A decent version in colas freight and a couple of 37's will complete the stable for the future modern image plank. ......... Looks like I'm going to be busy. They can however be tested out on the R & GLR initially.;-) Back to square one for the savings then

They were good prices. especially the DRS 66's. £ 75.00 each. never seen them at that price. The best I've seen is Hattons at £ 93.50.

Even second hand they are going for £84.00 and there abouts.:)

Hi Alan,

matt and I were going to do the two days. Its a long journey so may as well make the most of it. It will hopefully give us the chance to meet more of the members if they are spread out over the two days. Saturday all day and Sunday until about two in the afternoon to give us time to travel back up in good time.

we'll either be at the stall with the most shinnies ............. or the bar.:mutley

look forward to meeting up.

I'm still hoping to attend but issues have reared. We've made the decision to move permanently to Nerja at the end of August and return for Xmas 'pressie' swap at the end of November ( now there's a coincidence). However... sister in law is now having a 60th come retirement do in a remote Cheshire village hall....? ... so got to untangle this one... and get devious..'what dear? ... no everything is fine!'... watch this space

Ron,have a look in the thread to see what Tom and i have done to the front.Personalise the back as you wish.Might be worth giving them a ring to discuss your order.

If you want a polo shirt go ahead. The printers have the logo on file.We were going to decide on a design for the polo shirt after Warley so that all members worldwide could order one.Best to phone and discuss your order.

A phone call would probably be better Ron. You can discuss your exact requirements with them and they are very good.

In saying that you would need the web page to get the number.

They are good to deal with in my experience:thumbs

Hi Ron,

It's just about to start shortly. Had a long lie after my night out last night. Came home sober ( intentionally ) so feeling fresh and ready to get on with it.
A quick clear up first just to clear the decks and then .......... Onwards.

Cheers.

I'll see if I can find my emailed order confirmation for the T shirts, that should have the number on it.

Cheers

No need really. The main title is good enough. The rear additions were just an after thought.

Did you go for the navy ?

Hi Alan

A domain name is represented in the computer servers by a "named" file. This file tells the world where to find anything related to the name and when any updates are done.

For example the "MX" record (mail exchanger) tells email servers around the world where to send emails @yourdomain.com. The "www" record tells the world where to find the webpage.

You can create a CNAME record that redirects a domain name request. So if you have for example your website on a computer located at 202.5.96.110 your named file will have an entry like:

    www   IN    A  202.5.96.110

you could change this to read

    yourdomain.com    IN    A    202.5.96.110

    www    IN    CNAME    yourdomain.com

This will make the webpage work with or without the www by redirecting the www request. Check with your webhost as each server has a slightly different punctuation requirement. Some domain hosting companies include this option by default others do not. It really comes down to how they read the RFC (the internet standard) and interpret the section about CNAME entries.

As we are getting closer to Warley I wonder if its worth sticky ing this thread to the front page ? I would think the adverts will be coming out in the magazines soon and putting it in peoples minds again

Hi,

just looking to see if we have any other takers. I think it is a good idea to keep it to the fore as you suggest Matt. There are always new members coming through and if the thread is more visible, it may encourage a few more to join the motley crew.

it could always be taken back down after the event.

is there anyone else throwing their hat in the ring and coming along ?

cheers

Didn,t fancy a T shirt for Warley so I went to my local embroidery shop thingy to see what they would charge for an embroidered polo shirt, there is a £20 set up fee but that is a one off and they can use it to embroider anything t shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies etc so for a polo shirt with the logo on the back its £15.60 inc vat, I am having my layout and my name on the front of mine and that comes out at £19.98 inc I am happy to pay the set up fee so if any one wishes to use this supplier the name is Ace Sporting Embroidery Ltd, their address is 49,Duke Street, Staveley, Chesterfield, S43 3PD, phone 01246 280473/470650, mob, 07814 523741, fax 01246 280473.Website: http://www.acesports.freeserve.co.ukEmail: malc@ace-sports.freeserve.co.uk

An old and now deceased friend and workmate of mine used to say"Theres no future in being the richest man in the churchyard", and our local Funeral Director says "There's no pockets in a shroud!". I'd like my epitaph to read "I, being of sound mind, have spent the lot!"
Seriously though, looking forward to meeting some fellow forumites, looking (and doubtless spending) in the Train show, not to mention reliving my past mistakes looking round the Heritage Motor collection and remembering some of the crap I've either owned or driven over the years.

We are surely not talking about the BL princess, Austin allergic, morris marina or the great faux hall shuvette.:mutley

They all had heated rear windscreens ........... For keeping your hands warm whilst pushing them.

I had and Austin montego, and a Ford Cortina MK 5. Oh boy.

Yes ...... The memories, the more distant the better.

Ahh the memories, replacing a snapped clutch cable by the side of the road laid in the gutter with water running down my jacket collar and out the sleeve, :thud.

Been there, done that Pete! For my sins, one of my past mistakes was to buy an Austin Allegro (AGGRO?) 1500 estate automatic in that superb(?) shade of BL brown, which was christened "The Flying turd!". It wasn't a bad car and it'd shift after I'd sorted out various problems, plus it did take us to Denmark and back, but shortly afterwards whilst coming down a hill (Brimington Road by the 'Crem' Pete, so you'll know where that is) the front nearside suspension collapsed and we ground to a halt in the middle of the road on 3 wheels and a sump! I drew the line at that, and after repair, it was duly sold while we were all still in one piece!

But which day? ..... and time?

I have a ticket for the Sunday - having been there for a number of years, both as a trader and a punter, I prefer the Sunday because it isn't (comparatively) as busy as the Saturday.  If you get there with an early entry ticket it's worth going round the trade stands first whilst you can still move, though I suppose it depends on what your priorities are!

Hi Ron,

I'm with you. A list would be good. Maybe someone could take PM's from the guys that are going and compile a list. It could be posted every couple of weeks with revisions as people decide what they are doing.

It was Alan's thread to start with but if he is looking to delegate it, I would quite happily take it on. At the same time , no offence taken if my services are not required.

Let me know.

Just for the record, Matt and I will be there both Saturday & Sunday. We will however be leaving on the Sunday at a reasonable time for getting back up the road ......... Maybe about 2 ish ( TBD ).

Cheers

Tom,if you want to make the list feel free.I'm going on the Saturday. As i said previously we also need to settle on a place to meet.I suggested the main display as it seems the most obvious but if anyone has other ideas speak up.

Main display will be an easy one to find Alan , Even for those who haven't been.  How about two times each day ? Say. 12   and 3. That way the early birds get time for a good look round before the meet and those who can't make it early would get a chance again at 3

Hi,

Just penning the first of the attendance lists for posting later today ( when all you guys are out your scratchers ). There are a couple of members who look like they are attending from comments made on past posts but have not confirmed which days.

Can I ask that if you see this post, can you maybe confirm ( if you are able to ) which day you think you may attend on and I'll add it to my list of attendees.

The naughty chaps are ....... Passed Driver, Jakesdad, Ianvolvo, Novice and Super D.

My apologies if I have missed out on your chosen day. I have read the thread all the way through and have picked up on the definate committals. ( the rest of us will be committed later ).:mutley

The list will be up later today and as I said, I'll update it regularly on becoming aware of anyone else taking the plunge.

Cheers

Good morning Toto

Unfortunately I won't be attending after all, we are coming over to the uk but in December and for only 3 days (pressie swap and sister's belated birthday). I suggested I could be the advance party but there was an early frost in Spain that morning. I'll look forward to the photos and will now spend my saved up pocket money on vino tinto.

Sorry, not been good at giving up my plans. I will know for sure soon. I am still in the process of recovering from South Sudan having retired from the UN a couple of weeks ago. I will probably go with the flow, once I have confirmed that the weekend is free.

Hi,

Ok, I have done the sums so far for who we have attending and when. These are based on posts received so far either throughout this thread or PM'd to me to date. Of course, these could change with people's circumstances but ......... Here we are for now,

And in no particular order,

Saturday

Spurno, Matt, Toto, Piran, Mark L 71 A ( exhibiting Botleigh ) and Nairepooc.

Sunday

Keith M, Bromsmods, Matt, Toto, Piran, Mark L 71 A ( exhibiting Botleigh ) and gOibi.

There are one or two others who expressed an interest but have not yet committed. They are,

Passed driver, Jakesdad, Novice and Super D.

Ianvolvo, unfortunately can not make it.

I will update the above on a regular basis as things change, say once a week or so unless things remain as they are.

Not a bad little pack so far.

Cheers for now

Hi All,
Living in Rugby, it would be a Saturday and yes, i to shall attend, need to find what the rail fare will be, but, from Rugby, it shouldn't be to bad, online Warley is at stated £12.50, not to bad either, tho, from memory, the inside food and drink prices are obscenely priced so, i always take food and tea for sustenance, money better spent on model goodies  :lol::lol:;-).
                                                   All the very best mates...........Tom.........:);-).....

I'd imagine that you could buy it there but maybe I will be corrected on that one. I know you could at the Scottish show. Different geography though innit.

Went online, it's the same price and if I can't go for any reason I lose my money unless I pay £2.25 extra. If I intend to pay at the door and  I can't go, no charge!! As for getting in early, I've 60 miles to drive so that won't matter either!
So I'll pay at the door when I arrive on Sunday! :)

It must of changed then being closer to the event.I ordered my ticket months ago and i forgot to say that the booking fee negates the price difference at the time. It's a shame i'll miss meeting you Ron but have a great day.

Hi ALL,
Well , just been hit with a bill for around £940.00 by end of November so:shock:, we are saving like mad to get this amount ready, this is for some house repairs due to start in mid to end of November, and with this bill pending it will have to be that if i can get to the show so be it, otherwise, it may be the bill will be swallowing up ALL MONIES till the end of the year as such:sad::sad:, a pain but, there you are, such is life, so that's my position now and is not going to alter, as i say a bit of a naughtyword but, never mind:roll::roll:;-):).......

Afraid the shinies fund took a knock the Lister B I,m restoring needed work to its magneto the bill would have been around £350 more than the engine is worth so I have had to bite the bullet and buy a replacement, it worked out cheaper to buy a complete engine for £90 and take off the mag! still I am really looking forward to meeting up with you lot so that will take the edge off just having to drool over all the goodies!:mutley :mutley.

Hi Tom,

I think we expect bargains at the shows but really ....... Let's not kid ourselves. You usually find the retailers are actually adding the " cost " of attending the show onto their usual RRP.

However, having said that, there can be the odd bargain to be found. I got some scenic scatters marked down to £1.00 from the usual shelf price of £3.50. Now that is a bargain.

I'll pay the inflated prices if I have to when I visit shows as it gives me an interest in seeking out items that I want. To me ( generally speaking ) regardless of whether you are shopping at a show or at home ........... You won't beat Hattons. For main stream items the rest could close down for me.

Cheers

Toto

PS ..... Hope to see you there.

True its probably cheaper to buy from your favorite on line dealer but theres nothing like seeing something in the flesh so to speak and at shows you find products that you didn,t know you absolutely desperately needed or your life isn,t complete :mrgreen:.

Not knowing the geography within the Warley exhibition hall, do we have any suggestions as to where and when we get together. Maybe somewhere that avoids hotspots. What are the thoughts with the intelegencia.:mutley

Hi Alan,

Fair enough. If nobody comes back with a more informed choice then go with that. I'd suggest maybe 10.30 - 11.00 am to give everyone a chance to get there and maybe have a swatch about ( for bargain must have shinnies ). :mutley ...... And absolutely no drinking before 8.00 am. :mutley:mutley

Hi Guys,

Just been informed by the German parent company that I might be in China over the weekend of the Warley show :???:

This will be a complete bummer if that is so, last year missed it due to illness.

I was and am so much looking forward to meeting you all, so I will not know until the week before so unless you here different then I will be there and see you on Saturday 10:30 in the main area.

(Please god let there be no course in China )

It's not every day you get the chance to go to China. As much as I want to go to Warley ........ Make no mistake ...... China would win. Fantastic opportunity.

I do hope you make it though never the less.

Fingers crossed.

Hi Ron,

There is a slight revision due with regards to a possible change of days for some. I will get that out either tomorrow evening or Monday evening all going well. If not, it wouldn't be a difficult position for someone else to pick up.

It ain't long now, I wonder if my prediction of the Colas class 37 will bare fruit. The DRS version is out on Monday with Hattons supposedly.

Cheers

Having been many times, the best place to meet is the centre piece, regarding bargains at the show if you shop around you can do very well.Piran

Seems the most logical place.I did look on the website and there are designated meeting places but we might as well adopt the KISS principle. At least members won't be able to miss the centrepiece.

Morning all:),
Just this minute ordered my ticket for Warley, and, just found out that my bus pass is valid for any time useage for the week end so, seeing as the bus to the station is more or less outside my door so to speak, will only cost me my rail ticket and it's straight from my door to the NEC door and that will do me very nicely indeed, thank you:lol::lol::)..........
                                                                   Regards to all...........Tom....:);-)

Been collecting all the space cash and selling on that well know online auction site, thought about seeing how much I would get for SWMBO, but thought better of it!
I need someone to supply hot Tea & Coffee in these cold days in the railway room.

See the Saturday crew soon :lol::lol:

Was there today and walked around the central exhibit several times between 10.30 and 11.10 but couldn't find anyone hanging around who looked likely YMRC members, so sorry to have missed you all, if you were there.

Have to say that I was a little disappointed with the show this year - there seemed to be much more space than usual and a greater number of large scale layouts than I have seen before.

However, still managed to spend more than I intended (originally nothing!!) and get hit by numerous rucksacks being carried by thoughtless individuals who seem to ignore advice given each year through various forums.

Just a comment on some traders not using card machines. This could be for one or more of a number of factors. In particular there have been problems in previous years with wi-fi difficulties - I remember one occasion when no traders could use their card systems at all because the system at the NEC failed for a couple of hours. You should have seen the queues at the cash machines!! Also, if you use a card machine you will (probably) need a power supply for charging - if that is all a trader requires electricity for then it is totally uneconomic to pay NEC electricity rates as they are just outrageous. Some traders might have to rent terminals and those who have them will certainly have to pay card processing charges, something not experienced with cash (unless you are acting as a foreign currency exchange facility!!).

The only photo taken by a kind cleaner of Pete (Jakesdad),Ian (Nairepooc) and myself Alan (Spurno).
I was going to take some photos of the layouts but i found it difficult with people in the way so gave up.Not overly impressed with the layouts really, the Hornby three rail layout for example was just laid out on a large table cloth. There were no deals whatsoever which was disappointing.I spent most of my time looking for a J94.I found one at £50.00 which would then need hard wiring.
I wasn't disappointed with Warley but, never having been before it didn't live up to my expectations but i'm glad i went and met some of you.Sorry to miss you Tom.

Got to agree there John, OO gauge seemed in the minority! More O and 1 gauge than I've ever seen at a show and so many N gauge as well. Good atmosphere though and I enjoyed it till it got too busy about 2.30pm yesterday.

Cheers

Hi John.

On the subject of machines.
My partner makes jewellery & recently she got a machine from her bank where the communication is through bluetooth using the sellers mobile phone service.
The security of the system is obviously tight otherwise I doubt a bank would be using it.We live in Ireland but I imagine such a system must be available in the UK as well ?

Regards.

Possibly, Tony, though the service we used was direct through the mobile phone network using a secure link to Streamline.

I enjoyed my visit to Warley on Saturday, and it was great to meet Spurno (Alan), Nairpooc (Ian), Piran and Ron gOibi.  I went with the expectation of being crushed by the crowds but was pleasently surprised that I was able to get around fairly easily, some of the more popular layouts I had to go back to later to be able to view them comfortably but in most cases I had no problems.
There did seem to be a lot of O gauge layouts but I can,t complain as I model in that scale , the organisers seemed to have put the different scales and geographical types of layouts together as well as specialist layouts, minimum space, micro etc.                      I thought I had covered all the exhibition but I went onto a couple of the facebook model railway pages today and saw one or two layout photos I don,t recall seeing! just go,s to show, we left around 4pm nackered but happy definately going again next year.

Just a few photos I took towards the end.

the first few photos are of an Irish layout based on the Great Northern Railway, Ireland.  The last two just took my fancy for the excellent modelling.

Cheers for now, Pete.

Nice to meet you again Pete, Alan and Piran must admit I personally enjoyed Spalding more than Warley! Found it too big and busy compared to Spalding where there seemed more atmosphere?

Well that makes 3 of us agreeing.
OO gauge was sadly represented.
I too enjoyed myself and it did get busy at 2.30 so I too took my leave with my ill gotton gains.

I was set for Warley on the Sunday, but due to Family changing plans it was looking doubtful, bad weather then helped make the decision not to bother, especially since I'd already been to the 'Great Electric Train Show' a few weeks back. I never expected there to be much in the way of 'bargains' at Warley anyway due to the undoubted high cost for traders attending,- after all, those costs plus travel, overnight accommodation etc all have to come out of the pockets of the attending public, ie, US! By the time the public have paid the ticket price plus travel expenses and the NEC's ridiculous parking charges, the only real winners out of all this will likely be the NEC. I didn't bother with the Spalding show as it was close to my intended Warley visit anyway, but I think that's where I'll be heading next year. Distance-wise, there's not much difference between Warley and Spalding from North East Derbyshire, where I live and from reports, it offered much better value anyway.
On a different note, I'm really sorry to hear we've lost Toto as a member, He had many great ideas, prolific posting and photo's keeping us informed of His progress on his layout projects. He'll be missed, I'm sure.

I was discussing the parking charges with my brother in law and he made an observation I hadn,t considered, the Warley club have the show hall for a week before the show weekend consequently the hall isn,t earning any money so the NEC recoups the money from car parking, and probably makes a good deal more than the hall hire.

Simply Paul, a difference of opinion on the meaning of the written word between members. Those who read the threads/posts before they got cleaned up, will know what I am saying - to be honest, water under the bridge now.

I don't know about others, but when I've been to the NEC in the past for various exhibitions, (Motorcycle show, Building Construction exhibitions etc.) there has been some variation in whether parking was free or paid for. Maybe I'm just an old cynic, but it strikes me that the NEC management have taken the same view as many Councils, and regard the public as 'cash cows' to be milked for every cent they can screw from us, probably to pay the outrageous salaries to some of these "Executives" who feel they 'deserve' it! This might well backfire, and result in the public voting with their feet, as it appears on the NEC website that parking charges are now the norm for all functions.

My partner & I went to the NEC for Warley several years ago & there were complaints back then about the parking charges.
We didn't need to use the parking facilities but people were upset about the level of the charges. So it's nothing new & a good earner for the NEC.

£12 was very steep I agree.
I forgot to get a ticket and the machine was broken by the East 3 car park when I got back so drove to the window to pay like I have done before, the very nice chap behind the window just waved me out :)
Cannot ask for more!

I seem to recall from another forum a couple of years ago that there is a free or very cheap car park at or near a station about 2 stops from NEC.
