Odd, there's no people in the picture or smoke from any locomotives. Ed ____________________ Engineers just love to change things |

I think just a quite moment when the photo was taken. There is a definite haze in the closer to the roof. Contrary to much popular ideas, stations like this were not generally filled with smoke. Behind the 5 from the left roof support column, there is a locomotive, perhaps just arriving, with light smoke rising from it's stack. There is also a ghostly looking figure standing at the middle horse's head, which is how a person might appear if moving during exposure. Jim F ____________________ SECR and LBSCR 1900 - 1910 OO |

Reckon the ghostly figure is because the horse lifted it's head. Similar to the horse on the right which appears to have it's head down. There again............................................................... Ed ____________________ Engineers just love to change things |

I'd guess very difficult lighting conditions requiring a very long exposure. ![]() ![]() If you imagine standing where the photographer is, it would be pretty dark and, to get the depth of field, he'd have used a tiny apperture - any kind of flash would be out of the question. Film, in those days, needed holding up to the sun for an hour to register anything ( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ____________________ 'Petermac |
